Variety Ireland, in partnership with Kildare Sports Partnership and others, is bringing an Inclusive Cycling Come & Try event to Newbridge!

The Cycling Inclusion East Mobile Unit will be on site with a range of specially adapted cycles for people to try.

Whether you're young or old, an experienced cyclist or someone who has never cycled before, everyone is welcome!

🎭👻 THERE'S PLENTY HAPPENING AT RIVERBANK THIS HALLOWEEN!

One of the things I really wanted Samhain Newbridge to do was bring different parts of the town together, and it's brilliant to have Riverbank Arts Centre involved again this year.

They've got three events lined up as part of Samhain Newbridge 2026, with something for children and adults alike!

🧟 THE ZOMBIE MONOLOGUES

📅 Thursday 29 October | 8pm
🎟️ €12–€15 | Ages 16+

An award-winning horror comedy from Trip Hazard Theatre, following a takeaway driver who discovers a house full of zombies during lockdown.

It sounds absolutely mad, in the best possible way! 😂

🎶 TAYPOT JACK – A HALLOWEEN SINGING WORKSHOP

📅 Saturday 31 October | 11am
🎟️ €12 | Ages 8–10

Traditional singer Aileen Lambert will take children through some of Ireland's old Halloween traditions, with songs, stories, games and characters from Irish folklore.

I particularly love seeing events like this in the programme. Halloween has such a rich history here in Ireland, and it's great to have opportunities for children to learn a bit about it while enjoying themselves.

🕯️ THE LAST WITCH: BRIDGET CLEARY

📅 Saturday 31 October | 8pm
🎟️ €18–€20

Written and performed by Eve O'Mahony, this is the true and tragic story of Bridget Cleary, who was killed in Tipperary in 1895.

It's a powerful piece of theatre exploring superstition, folklore and the very real consequences of fear and prejudice.

All three events take place at Riverbank Arts Centre on Main Street, Newbridge.

👻🎃 GHOSTLY GALA IS COMING TO NEWBRIDGE!

Here's another one for the Halloween calendar, and this one is for a great cause!

The team at ODEON Newbridge are getting into the Samhain spirit with their Ghostly Gala, taking place in DUBH on George's Street.

🎟️ €10 per ticket, payable at the event
🏆 Prizes for the best dressed!

And the best part? All ticket fees are going to Aware, supporting their work in mental health across Ireland.

So there's a good excuse to get the costumes out a little earlier this year! 😂

Whether you're going all out with the fancy dress or just heading in to enjoy the atmosphere, it's a lovely opportunity to support a really worthwhile cause while enjoying a night out in Newbridge.

A big thanks to the ODEON team for getting involved, and to DUBH, who are not only hosting the event but have also come on board as a financial supporter and festival partner for Samhain Newbridge 2026.

It's exactly this kind of involvement from local businesses and organisations that helps make the festival what it is.

🎃🙌 ANYONE FANCY GIVING US A HAND WITH SAMHAIN NEWBRIDGE?

We're getting closer to Halloween, and while we've a great programme lined up, there's still plenty of work to be done behind the scenes!

This is our third year organising Samhain Newbridge, and like most community events, it relies on people being willing to give a little of their time to help make things happen.

So we're putting the call out for a few more volunteers!

We're particularly looking for people who could help with:

🎃 Decorating George's Street and getting the town looking the part for Halloween.

🎬 Market Scare on Friday 30 October, helping with our outdoor cinema at Market Square.

🎨 Halloween Family Day on Saturday 31 October, helping with activities, crafts and welcoming families to the Town Hall.

👻 Our Samhain Procession on Saturday 31 October at 6pm, travelling down George's Street and onto Market Square.

🧹 Setting things up, taking things down and all those little jobs that nobody really notices but that absolutely need doing! 😂

And don't worry, we're not asking anyone to give up their entire Halloween weekend.

Even an hour or two would be a huge help, and we'll do our best to match people with something that suits their availability.

Samhain is organised through Newbridge Community Development, with support from local businesses, organisations and volunteers. It's a real community effort, and that's what we want to keep building on.

📋 WHO'S RAISING WHAT FOR NEWBRIDGE?

Following our recent post about next week's Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, a few people asked which councillors were putting forward the motions and questions.

Fair question! So we've put together a breakdown of all six Newbridge councillors and what's on the agenda for Wednesday, 21 October.

We've included both motions and questions, along with their agenda numbers, so you can see exactly who's raising what.

🔄 You might notice a little symbol beside some of the items.

We've gone back through Council records as far as 2019 to check whether any of the six current Newbridge councillors have raised these issues previously.

Some have been brought up by the same councillor before, while others were previously raised by a different councillor.

It's worth remembering that just because someone's name is beside an item on this month's agenda doesn't necessarily mean they were the first to raise it, or that the issue hasn't been worked on for years.

The symbol simply means we've found a previous motion or question from one of the six current councillors relating to that issue. It isn't a complete history of everyone who may have worked on it.

We've also used a rotating alphabetical order for the councillors, so everyone gets a fair turn at appearing first.

And remember, these are motions and questions coming before the Council, not necessarily decisions or works that have been approved.

We'll share the Council's responses and any decisions after Wednesday's meeting.

📍 WHAT'S COMING UP FOR NEWBRIDGE?

The next Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting takes place on Wednesday, 21 October, and there are quite a few items on the agenda that could affect Newbridge.

Here's some of what's being discussed:

🚗 Parking in Newbridge: Proposed changes to parking charges in the town.

🚸 School safety: Safe Routes to School proposals for St Conleth's Infant School and Patrician Primary School.

📚 Newbridge Library and Riverbank: Updates on the progress of both projects.

🧠 Youth mental health and youth services: Finding suitable premises for Jigsaw and the Newbridge Urban and Morristownbiller Youth Project, along with an update on a site for a youth centre.

💧 Water supply: Planned infrastructure improvements and ongoing water pressure concerns in Ballymany and Standhouse.

🏘️ Newbridge town centre: What's planned under the recently announced €150,000 masterplan funding?

🚶 Local improvements: Moorefield Crescent footpaths, walkway lighting in Páirc Mhuire, noise from the M7 at Old Abbey Manor and the proposed St Conleth's Bridge boardwalk.

🏡 Housing estates: Taking in charge of The Meadows and The Paddocks.

💶 Local spending: The draft budget for 2027 and remaining Local Property Tax funding allocations.

These are items coming before the council. They aren't all agreed projects or decisions, and some are questions awaiting responses.
