Today marks the start of National Heritage Week, and we thought it was the perfect excuse to spend the next nine days digging a little deeper into Samhain.

We all know the word. We all know some of the traditions. But over the next nine days we’re going to look at where Samhain comes from, what it meant, some of the customs and folklore around it, and how those traditions eventually helped shape the Halloween we know today.

And, of course, we’ll finish up by bringing it back home to Samhain in Newbridge.

So from today until 23 August, keep an eye on the page for our 9 Days of Samhain for National Heritage Week.

Tomorrow: What is Samhain?
