Last week, we had the pleasure of partnering with the Irish Network NYC for a Project Children Documentary screening at the Bank of Ireland Hub, bringing our story back into the room in a way that honored the legacy and lasting impact of our organization.

It was one of those evenings where past and present sat side by side; those who lived it, and those connecting to it for the first time.

We were also proud to welcome Miriam and Denis Mulcahy, along with the Mulcahy Scholarship Board of Directors and members of the team at the Aisling Irish Community Center, as we announced the 2026 Mulcahy Scholarship cohort, a remarkable group that represents the next chapter in the enduring connection between Ireland and the United States.

Huge congratulations to Liam Dolan (New City, NY), Maura McCormack (Hastings on Hudson, NY), Molly McEntee (Maspeth, NY), PJ McGroarty (Yardley, PA), Brendan McKeon (South Orange, NJ) and Mary O'Connor (Yonkers, NY), and we wish you well this summer at the Celtic Irish American Academy in Galway, Ireland.

Our sincere thanks as well to Gerald Angley of the Consulate General of Ireland, New York for joining us on the evening and presenting the scholars with their scholarships. The Consulate’s continued support and engagement mean a great deal to this work and to the future of these young leaders.

Thank you to team at the Bank of Ireland Hub for the spectacular venue, to the Irish Network NYC for hosting the reception and to the The M**f Liquor Company for providing some refreshments for the evening.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a memorable one.

It was so wonderful to catch the talented Geraldine Hughes’ performance in Ulster American at Irish Repertory Theatre in NYC recently.

Geraldine has always supported Project Children over the years and it was wonderful to see her take to the stage in such a brilliant play.

And such a pleasure to meet the wonderful Matthew Broderick.

The show was absolutely fantastic; so clever, funny, and incredibly well performed. Do yourself a favor and go see this play before it wraps this weekend! Now extended through May 24.

Everyone at Project Children are truly heartbroken to share the passing of our dear friend, Unateresa Gormley.

Unateresa was truly a beautiful soul and a lady in every sense of the word. She lived her life with deep pride in her Irish American heritage, and that pride shone through in everything she did. She gave so much of herself so freely and so often, touching countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and grace.

We were deeply honored to have her as part of the Project Children family. Through our Project Children Intern Program, she opened her heart and home, welcoming an intern each summer to her beloved Village of Greenwood Lake NY, a place filled with warmth, laughter, and her unmistakable spirit of hospitality.

We were also truly honored to have her join us in Monaghan last October, where she was part of something she so deeply believed in and supported throughout her life.

Her love for Irish dance and her devotion as a mentor at The Sheahan-Gormley School of Irish Dance shaped and inspired so many young lives. She believed in her students, encouraged them, and helped them grow not only as dancers, but as young leaders in this world.

Above all, she was devoted to her family. Our hearts are with her husband Sam, her son Shea, and all who loved her so dearly.

We will miss her more than words can say, but her legacy of love, generosity, and community will live on in all of us who were fortunate enough to know her and we take comfort in knowing she is dancing with the angels above. 🪽🪽

The arrangements are as follows:

Wake:
Wednesday, 4/15 and Thursday, 4/16 5 pm to 8 pm both days at Flynn Funeral Home, 139 Stage Rd, Monroe, NY.

Funeral Mass:
Friday, 4/17 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Rd, Monroe, NY.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Irish American Young Leaders. PO BOX 1762 Greenwood Lake NY 10925

All of us at Project Children are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Dr. Rory O’Hanlon.

Dr. O’Hanlon is a lifelong public servant in Ireland who believed deeply in compassion, peace, and the protection of children. He was a strong and consistent supporter of Project Children, lending his voice, encouragement, and public support to a program rooted in care, connection, and healing.

Throughout his life, as a family doctor, community leader, and national figure, he embodied service to others. His belief in the power of community, dignity, and cross‑border understanding closely reflected the values at the heart of our organization.

Chairman Denis Mulcahy had the pleasure of spending time with Dr. O’Hanlon, his wife Teresa, and their son Shane last September in their home in Carrickmacross Co. Monaghan, and it was a true honor to reminisce about the friendship and the work they achieved on behalf of the children of Northern Ireland.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Teresa, his children, family, and all who mourn his loss and may he be remembered with gratitude and respect.

Congratulations to Martin Bracken and Bernadette Mahon-Bracken, honored as the 2026 Celts of the Year by the Greenwood Lake Gaelic Cultural Society at the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance last Saturday evening.

This well‑deserved recognition celebrates Martin and Bernie’s dedication to the society and their continued contribution to the Greenwood Lake and Project Children community.

It was a wonderful occasion and a fitting tribute as the Society marked 51 years of promoting Irish culture, heritage, and community spirit.☘️

Well done to Martin and Bernie, and congratulations to the Greenwood Lake Gaelic Cultural Society on a memorable evening.💚

Project Children was proud to support the The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Long Island, Inc. for their wonderful Emerald Cocktail Party last Saturday night, honoring their chaplain, Rev. Joseph Fitzgerald. 🍀

Congratulations to the Friendly Sons on a well organized and important event, and special recognition to Dermot Kelly and all involved for their leadership, dedication, and hard work in making the evening such a success.

We were also delighted to take part in the Village of Warwick's St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 8th, joining the local community in celebrating Irish heritage, tradition, and connection. 🍀
