We know this is a bit long winded… but please hear us out 💚
Truthfully, we don’t enjoy constantly posting about funding or asking for support. We wish we didn’t have to. We wish services like ours were properly funded so that our focus could remain solely on helping people rather than worrying every month about how to keep the doors open.
But the honest reality is without you, our supporters and community, The Midleton Hub simply would not exist.
And the sad truth is, if the heavily funded systems already in place were working properly, services like ours wouldn’t be needed in the first place.
We are here because the system is broken.
Every single day we hear from people desperately trying to access support. People going to their GP and being told they may wait months through public services. People looking privately but unable to afford €80+ per session. People turned away elsewhere because they are “not in crisis enough” or because they have reached a cap of 6 or 12 sessions.
At The Midleton Hub, we believe support should not work like that.
If you need support, we want to be able to provide it.
We don’t ask people to prove their income to access reduced-cost counselling. We don’t tell people “your sessions are up.”
We say: “We are here for as long as you need us.”
Clients contribute what they can comfortably afford, whether that is €20 or our maximum fee of €50. This not only helps contribute towards the real cost of providing professional support, but also gives people dignity, ownership and investment in their own healing journey.
Low-cost should never mean low-quality.
All of our practitioners are qualified, insured, Garda vetted, and accredited or pre-accredited with their professional bodies. We are a registered charity, fully GDPR compliant, and work hard to maintain the highest standards possible with very limited resources.
We are incredibly proud of the service we provide.
What many people don’t see is that behind the scenes, we operate on a fraction of the budget of larger organisations. We don’t have large fundraising departments, advertising budgets, paid media campaigns or teams of admin staff. We have one person carrying multiple operational roles every single day because we try to keep our costs as low as possible so that as much money as possible goes directly back into supporting people.
We know people are tired of being asked for support. We are tired of having to ask.
But right now, it truly is this community that is keeping our doors open.
And the reality is you never truly understand how important accessible mental health support is until the day you or someone you love needs it.
Thank you for continuing to stand beside us 💚
