Yesterday, on a sunny Friday afternoon, we visited Carrigaline Skatepark. The skatepark is in a fantastic location: central to the town, with nearby car parking, and is part of a larger park including a playground, basketball court, community hall, bandstand and duck pond! It's also relatively close to the start of the Carrigaline-Crosshaven Greenway.

This is a great example of a thoughtful and well executed skatepark project: the location is ideal (ensuring it's accessible to many skaters), and the design of the skatepark itself has elements that are suitable for all skill levels.

One of the most encouraging parts of any skatepark is the way it builds community: the skatepark provides an inclusive space for skaters to meet and share experiences. Skating has known benefits for physical fitness, mental wellbeing, and resilience too - i.e. learning how to try and adjust tricks again and again until you succeed. In Carrigaline, we noticed kids helping each other learn and refine new tricks, staying active, and having fun! This really underlines the benefit a skatepark can have to a community.

We hope to learn from these concepts when developing skate facilities across East Cork. Keep rolling! πŸŒ•

Sounds like a fantastic initiative! We encourage you to drop them a like and help this new page get some buzz!

Welcome to CeascTrack!!

We are a dedicated group of volunteers from across all clubs in the East Cork Athletics Division, Rebel Wheelers, IWASport, Special Olympics Ireland, schools and wider community groups looking for an accessible and sustainable world class 8 lane 400m track and field facility in the region of East Cork within a municipal park.

We are currently engaging with local and national politicians to provide a central home for athletics in the Cork East region for our clubs and numerous communities from Cobh to Youghal, Aghada to Conna and the widespread surrounding areas between the N25 and M8 routes.

Our clubs and schools and towns and villages need a community track and sporting hub to develop our sport and provide a safe and inclusive space for families and groups to come together, for all ages and all abilities.

An inclusive track and field facility with a clubhouse in a regional park setting will build community and give all ages and abilities a vital outlet to connect and be active.

Please like and share the page to grow support for our project and help the vision become a reality!

Hello all! First off, thank you to all the new followers! We promised a giveaway in a recent post, and that will be coming soon πŸŒ• After skating a short stretch of the Greenway twice, here are our thoughts so far!

We are absolutely delighted to have Phase 1 of this new amenity for East Cork open to the public! The surface is smooth, and there are no major uphills or downhills (at least in the first few kilometres, from the Midleton end). It's very accessible, connecting directly to the train station platform, with plenty of parking at the Midleton Train Station Car Park.

Here are a few other highlights:

- The plaza has a well-designed triangular layout, and would be a great meeting point, or place to enjoy a picnic.

- Lots of benches at the plaza by Midleton train station

- Lots of existing nature to enjoy, plus new trees planted for long term growth.

- Interesting gentle curves designed into the 'straight' stretches of the old rail line, for variety & visual appeal.

- Bike repair station.

Have you checked out this amenity yet? Let us know what you think! Keep rolling! πŸŒ•

Hello everyone! We are SPACE: Skate Park Advocates in Cork East. We are a community group of advocates.

We will be attending the opening of the new Midleton - Mogeely stretch of the greenway later this morning (details at the end). The photo is taken from outside the games at the Mogeely end!

At a high level, we are looking to break the cycle of underserved generations of young people in East Cork by advocating for skating amenities: trails, skate parks and more!

Our Vision is to create an inclusive community of Skateboarders, Roller Skaters, Inline Skaters, Scooter Riders, BMX Riders, Wheel Chair MotoCross (WCMX) riders, Adaptive Skaters and others who use appropriate wheeled recreational equipment.

Our Mission is to create a network of suitable skate parks and other skate amenities throughout East Cork to improve the physical and mental health of the community, particularly young people.

Our flagship project is to build a skate park in Midleton, but we would love to see skate parks across East Cork. For example, Cobh, Carrigtwohill and Youghal (the Waterford greenway, for example, has skate parks in Dungarvan and Waterford, so why not the same thing for our new Midleton-Youghal greenway?)

We will be at Midleton Train Station end of the greenway from 13:00 with a limited amount of stickers available!

A fantastic new amenity has opened in Tipperary: the Clonmel Regional Sports hub. In addition to a walking trail, athletics track, and playground, there are also two fantastic amenities for skaters: a skate park and a pump track. It's located on the TUS Clonmel Campus, with fantastic views of the surrounding rolling hills.

The concrete in the skatepark is super smooth, and its triangular plaza design features mainly street elements, with a little transition. It's perfect for beginners and advanced skaters. Definitely worth checking out! However, there is already quite a bit of dirt and rock that has encroached onto the skatepark, which could be addressed with a little extra landscaping/finishing. This would really help the skatepark's longevity, and prevent skaters falling due to the debris on the skatepark.

The pump track is massive! Lots of little side trails and curves to keep it interesting. It's bumps are definitely a little taller that most skaters could handle without pushing (designed more for BMX), however it's still worth trying it out, especially with 2 or 3 stretches a skateboard could make without losing momentum.

Think you'll make a trip to Clonmel this summer to check it out?

Keep rolling! πŸŒ•

Last weekend, we took a road trip out to Tralee to see OX PARK ( ), the fantastic new skate park that opened last July. The first impression was just how much use the park was getting: there were so many kids skating there, learning new tricks and just having fun!

While we were there, we even ran into another group of Skate Park advocates from Milltown, about 20 minutes south of Tralee, who were learning about the skate park. It's always great to meet other people working towards the goal of more skate amenities for their area!

I'm looking forward to the next time I can make it to OX PARK! Thanks to the advocates that got it built, they've been so helpful in answering my questions and giving information about their own skate park! Hopefully we can meet in person next time 😁

Stay tuned for an update on our own Skate Park project for Midleton! Keep rolling! πŸŒ•

On Sunday, hosted a very well attended event to celebrate the launch of their new logo, new admin team, and the start of the good weather for skating!
The logo was designed by and pays homage to the iconic Cork GAA logo. It was only fitting that the location of the meetup was the fantastic New Marina Park by Pairc Ui Chaoimh, and even more fitting that Cork was facing off against Dublin at the same time! Hearing the crowd cheer from the stadium was fantastic.
Here at SPACE, we are thankful for the continued support from communities like Longboarders Cork, and can't wait for their next meet up! Check them out for more! Keep rolling! πŸŒ•

One of the better places to skate in East Cork is along the waterfront between Rostellan and Aghada. Perfect to skate on a spring or summer evening, you're bound to spot the swans, seagulls and if you're lucky even a heron. However, despite the trail extending further from Aghada to Whitegate, that section is not full paved, meaning that the full potential of the waterside walkway is not being realised. It would be great to see Rostellan joined all the way to Whitegate along a skateable trail. Keep rolling! πŸŒ•

Right by the Cork Harbour Greenway Carpark, behind Pairc UΓ Chaoimh, is a bit of a hidden gem. It's at the start of the Marina walkway, and has smooth ground, perfect for beginner skaters!
There are also a few benches for breaks, and a coffee stall too.
Well worth checking out, and another great example of a fantastic amenity that see great use from those who know where to find it! Keep rolling! πŸŒ•
