The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) 2026/2027 has been
launched. The scheme supports the development of new outdoor recreational
infrastructure and the necessary repair, enhancement, or promotion of existing
outdoor recreation infrastructure, in countryside areas across Ireland. Further details
on what type of grants are available and project criteria can be found on our website

A few spaces left for Sunday's Family Day at the Burren Archaeology Festival 2026. Galway County Council The Heritage Council National Monuments Service - Archaeology Burrenbeo Trust Burren Nature Sanctuary & Botanical Collection Galway County Public Participation Network Galway Public Libraries

The Burren Archaeology Festival is starting tomorrow 20th. Saturday is a day of archaeology talks and there is a fantatstic line up of speakers.
While Saturday is now sold out, our Sunday Family Day is free to attend at the beautiful Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan.

🏺 Handle replica artefacts
🧶 Wool spinning
🎨 Create medieval clay tiles

There are also a few tickets remaining for the Big Dig, where children get the chance to experience what it is like to be an archaeologist by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking house.

Ballinasloe’s Limestone Legacy - summer photo competition.

Take a photo of something relating to Ballinasloe’s past as a world renowned centre for limestone building, quarrying and craft. It can be anything from a building to a cut stone, memorial or a stonemason’s tools. Post and tag for a repost. Winner will receive €200 among other prizes.

Visual Art & Craft (ceramics, leather, metal, stone, sculpture, textiles, woodworking, or other)
Poetry, Song, or Music
We are especially seeking work inspired by the Co. Roscommon landscape, history, identity, and specific local sites like Ballintober Castle, the graveyard, and St. Bride’s Holy Well, as well as archaeology and the Castles in Communities project.
