Today, as we lay our dear friend Joe Duane to rest, the Kilrickle Hall Committee, and indeed the entire Kilrickle community, pause to remember and honour a man who gave so much to the place he proudly called home.

Joe was one of those special people whose quiet dedication helped shape the community we know today. He gave countless hours to Kilrickle Hall over many decades, serving as a dedicated committee member and Chairperson. Just three years ago, he stepped back and entrusted the current committee with carrying on the work that meant so much to him—ensuring that our hall would always remain a welcoming place at the heart of our community.
(Picture below of some of the past and current trustees)

His love for Kilrickle extended far beyond the hall. Through his work with the Tidy Villages Committee and his willingness to always lend a hand, Joe took great pride in making our village the very best it could be. He never looked for recognition; he simply cared deeply about his community and the people in it. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment will be remembered for many years to come.

Today, we also remember Joe’s great friend George, who predeceased him. We know the friendship they shared and the dedication they both gave to our community will never be forgotten. We also think of Joe’s many friends and fellow volunteers who worked alongside him over the years and who will feel his loss deeply.

Joe leaves behind a wonderful legacy of community spirit, generosity and friendship. Kilrickle is a better place because of him, and we are all the richer for having known him.

On behalf of the Kilrickle Hall Committee, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mary, the Duane family, and all of Joe’s extended family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time.

Rest in peace, Joe. Thank you for everything you gave to Kilrickle. You will always be remembered.

Our final photo drop from St. Patrick’s Day in Kilrickle — and it’s fair to say we’ve saved the best for last… our young musicians 🎶🎻☘️🪗

A huge thank you to everyone who made this such a special event 🎶☘️

To Caoimhe for all the organisation and support 🎶👏, to the fantastic young musicians for their hard work and performance 🎻🎶, and to the parents for encouraging them every step of the way ☘️👏

Many of these kids have been learning with Ms Gallagher in Kilrickle National School, and in recent months have also been coming together for trad sessions in Dessie O'Briens Cafe & Bar Friday afternoons and the hall leading up to the event 🎶🎻 🪗These sessions focus on playing together, building confidence, and most importantly enjoying the music — which really shone through on the day 🎶✨

With the great interest shown, there are hopes to run more sessions over the summer to keep the momentum going 🎶☘️ These are open youth trad sessions for Kilrickle and surrounding areas 🎻🎶

If your child might be interested, feel free to get in touch with Caoimhe McGrath 0852291959 find out more 🎶 Whether they already play, would like to try an instrument 🎻🪗, or just want to come along and listen for a few sessions first, they are very welcome 😊☘️

A relaxed, supportive way to get involved and be part of something local 🎶☘️

Thanks again to all our generous sponsors and volunteers and everyone involved🎶☘️

**What a fantastic Saint Patrick’s Day event in the Community Hall for 2026!** ☘️
So much fun had and an incredible **€1,900 raised** towards the upkeep of the hall — thank you everyone!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise and run the day — from setup and safety, to the tuck shop, refreshments, raffle and music. It was a real community effort.

☘️ Our morning kicked off with a fantastic face painters, setting the tone for a great day.

🎻 In the afternoon, we had a brilliant seisiún, led by Caoimhe McGrath, with some incredibly talented young performers. It was wonderful to see musicians joining in and sharing the music.

🪩🕺🏻💃🏻 The annual disco was, as always, a highlight — made even more special this year with our MC and local dancing expert, Niall Doorhy, keeping everyone on their feet.

🍬🍫 Shout out to those who kept the tuck shop in full swing throughout the day and certainly kept the energy levels high!

💃🏻🕺🏻 Spot prizes brought plenty of fun, with some impressive dance moves on display.

🏆 And of course, our annual raffle was a huge success, with over €750 worth of fantastic prizes up for grabs.

**A special thank you to Aisling O’Brien** for returning again this year to capture the day — we’re very grateful for her time and talent. Keep an eye out this week as we’ll be sharing photos from across the day!

A big thank you also to all our raffle sponsors — we’ll tag businesses in the comments 👇
