Today we remember Servant of God Ragheed Ganni, a cherished friend of Lough Derg whose life and witness continues to inspire across the world.

Fr Ragheed served on the staff of Lough Derg from 1996 to 2003 while studying for the priesthood in Rome. He had a deep love for this holy place and for the many pilgrims he encountered here.

On 3 June 2007, Fr Ragheed was martyred alongside three fellow Christians in Mosul, Iraq, after celebrating Sunday Mass. His faith, courage and fidelity to Christ remain a powerful testimony of hope.

As we give thanks for his life and witness, we invite you to join us in prayer:

Lord, through the example of Fr Ragheed Ganni, strengthen us in faith, deepen our trust in You, and help us to be faithful witnesses to Your love in our own time. Amen.

May his memory be a blessing and may his cause for beatification continue to advance.

Feast of St Kevin, Wednesday, June 3, 2026
St Mary’s Cathedral, Dublin

Archbishop Dermot Farrell celebrated Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral, Dublin, on Wednesday, June 3, for the Feast of St Kevin. St Kevin of Glendalough is one of the principal patrons of the Archdiocese of Dublin. In the Archbishop’s homily, he called for the Church to recognise and encourage the gifts already present among the people of the Archdiocese for ministry, leadership and service. Using example of St Kevin, he called on people to discover the “hidden treasure” of a living relationship with God and to help others encounter that same faith.

“Like Patrick before him St Kevin knew firsthand the aliveness of God, God’s power, God’s possibilities, and his mystery. Kevin had found the treasure. To be true to Kevin’s heritage is not only to be inspired by his living faith, but also to allow ourselves be found by the living God, and to put others on the way that leads to being found by him and consoled by him. In very different, but no less challenging times, Kevin knew how to find a way. It is vital that we do so.”

St Kevin, pray for us.
Pope St John XXIII, pray for us.
Pope St Paul VI, pray for us.
Pope St John Paul II, pray for us.

The Feast of the Visitation
Today we are celebrating the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin and the memory of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Therefore, everything invites us to turn our trusting glance to Mary. To her, also this evening, we addressed the ancient and ever actual pious practice of the Rosary.

The Rosary, when it is not a mechanical, traditional form of repetition, is a Biblical meditation that allows us to trace the events of the Lord's life in the company of the Blessed Virgin, pandering them, like her, in our heart.

In many Christian communities during the month of May there is the beautiful custom of reciting the Holy Rosary in a more solemn way in families and in parishes. Now, that the month is ending, may this good habit continue. Rather, may it continue with more commitment so that, at the school of Mary, the lamp of faith may shine ever more in the hearts and homes of Christians.
