Thank you to FoodCloud for convening the Irish Food Sharing Summit 2026, and to Bord Bia for hosting.

The session brought together perspectives from across the food system on surplus food donation, community food sharing and agricultural recovery.

Donegal Local Development CLG’s Head of Operations, Margaret Larkin, shared her perspective on helping communities in Donegal.

DLDC established the Donegal Food Response Network to support community and voluntary organisations tackling food poverty in Donegal. Through its partnership with the national charity FoodCloud, fresh vegetables are delivered to food banks in the county.

On the evening, you can meet with groups who will share what volunteer opportunities they have.

You’ll also hear from adventurer and motivational speaker Jason Black who will share his thoughts on the value and impact of volunteering.

Donegal Local Development CLG (DLDC) is pleased to be taking part in the Irish Food Sharing Summit 2026, convened by FoodCloud and hosted by Bord Bia on Friday 16th October.

DLDC’s Head of Operations Margaret Larkin will be contributing to the discussion on communities, sharing how food-sharing approaches are strengthened and built around dignity, choice and community leadership.

The event will bring together perspectives from government, food business, research, communities and agriculture to explore the role of food redistribution in climate action, food security and the circular economy.

The Donegal Food Response Network (DFRN) was delighted to share the support received from Dunfanaghy Golf Club this week, helping provide food and hygiene products to people.

A total of €2,069.67 was raised through a recent four-ball waltz competition at the club. The funds were used to purchase food and hygiene products that were shared among members.

This follows another generous contribution from Dunfanaghy Golf Club earlier this year. As part of Lady Captain’s Day, Amanda Witherow encouraged donations in support of the network.

DFRN is made up of 21 community and voluntary organisations across Donegal, delivering over 100,600 food packages annually to families and individuals.

The network was established by Donegal Local Development CLG (DLDC) to support community and voluntary organisations tackling food poverty in Donegal.

Growing Together in Gortahork 🍃

As part of the Social Participation and Combating Exclusion (SPACE) programme, young and old came together for a hands-on journey of gardening, storytelling and connection.

It was wonderful to see generations coming together. One 89-year-old shared memories of growing up in years gone by while local school children listened. They all had an opportunity to explore all things that grow on the land.

With less than one month to go until the 2026 Community Recognition Awards, excitement is building ✨

Judging has now been completed and four finalists have been selected in each of the following categories:
▪️Best Social Inclusion Community Group
▪️Best Small Social Enterprise/Community Organisation
▪️Best Large Social Enterprise/Community Organisation
▪️Best Community Environmental Impact Project

All 16 finalists have been contacted, and we look forward to meeting them over the coming weeks.

A zen Tory 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️

Islanders of Tory recently completed a programme of yoga and mindfulness classes, giving people of all ages the chance to slow down, connect and take time for themselves.

Each week, classes were delivered to almost 50 people on the island, including school children, teachers, adults and older people taking part in chair yoga sessions.

A huge thank you to Lisa McKelvey of Cruit Island Yoga, who braved the ferry journey each day to bring these sessions to the island.
