Well Ireland is grounded in communities, but our reach is local, regional, national and global! We are delighted to welcome on board our first i-Marked academic from Ghana. Prof. Arti Singh is an Associate Professor and Public Health Physician at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, and heads the Department of Community Health at the School of Medical Sciences. In common with many of the others in our growing movement, Arti's interests span to***co control, and the commercial determinants of health, and her research has directly shaped national health policy in Ghana.

Certificate in Building SAFER Communities: This is a significant leap forward in prevention education here in Ireland. There is a huge amount of work behind the scenes in developing a programme of this nature and in getting it accredited. Positive, as always, to work with partners in Atlantic Technological University, particularly course co-ordinator Dr. Grainne Ketelaar. Course programme is beginning on the 15th Sept.

Please join us on the morning of 25th September for a walk at An Grianan of Aileach for Recovery Month. This walk is being led by family members from Donegal and Derry who have come together, with the support of Well Ireland, to look at importance of families recovery journeys and to build hope that change is possible.

The course will be delivered online over 12 evenings (one evening per week, one study week) and may involve one on campus day in Atlantic Technological University. The course will cover a range of areas including prevention science, public health, and community action approaches and students will benefit from sessions with a range of leading global experts.

The closing date for applications is fast approaching, August 15th. We are delighted to have secured funding to cover the 500 euro fee for up to 15 people, 10 of these are specifically for people living in our 10 SAFER implementation sites: Ballymun, Canal Communities, Celbridge, Cork City, Drogheda, Leixlip, Letterkenny, Listowel, Monaghan and Sligo. Just delighted to welcome onboard our latest i-Marked researcher Norberto Francisco Hernández-Llanes, and our first signatory in Mexico. Norberto (B.S. in Psychology, M.P.H.) is a specialist in alcohol policy and the commercial determinants of health, with experience in epidemiological research, public policy evaluation, and evidence generation to reduce the harms associated with alcohol consumption. He has led projects on regulation, taxation, health-based labelling, and implementation science, collaborating with government agencies, academic institutions, and civil society organizations. Very much looking forward to meeting Norberto next week to explore further roll out of i-Mark in Mexico.
