€263,458.

That is the incredible amount raised by the people of Donegal for the Irish Cancer Society through Relay for Life Donegal in 2026.

But perhaps the most important part of our cheque presentation wasn’t simply hearing the final total.

It was hearing what this support means for people affected by cancer here in our own county.

Figures shared by the Irish Cancer Society showed that, in Donegal:

💜 863 lifts were provided to and from cancer treatment
💜 217 people were supported through the Night Nursing service
💜 86 people accessed free counselling
💜 More than 1,100 one-to-one conversations took place through the Support Line or Letterkenny Daffodil Centre

These aren’t just statistics.

Behind every number is a person, a family and a moment when support was needed.

So, over the coming weeks, we’re going to share more about these services and the difference your fundraising helps to make.

Because if you walked a lap, lit a candle, boiled the kettle, joined a team, volunteered, performed, sponsored or donated… this is part of what you helped make possible.

That is the extraordinary amount raised by the people of Donegal for the Irish Cancer Society through Relay for Life Donegal in 2026.

It brings our total since Relay began here in Donegal to an incredible €2,311,564.

But the most important part of Wednesday night wasn’t simply hearing the final total.

It was hearing what support for Relay makes possible for people affected by cancer here in our own county: lifts to treatment, free counselling, Night Nursing, a listening ear and continued investment in cancer research.

Over the coming weeks, we want to share more of those figures with you.. because everyone who walked a lap, lit a candle, boiled a kettle, joined a team, made a donation or gave their time deserves to understand the difference they helped to make.

This is what Donegal can do when we do it together. 💜

Monica McElhinney of the Irish Cancer Society presented the Relay For Life Donegal committee members with a Global Impact Award, awarded after the committee ranked among the top 10 Relay fundraising groups globally and 2nd in Ireland in 2025.
