Barnstorm Theatre is in its 35th year, and the years have absolutely flown by. With the passing of time, we have created some amazing memories and made history. We are looking to celebrate that history by highlighting some of our unsung heroes.

First up is the table. The table was used in the first Barnstorm production at the Watergate Theatre, Crimes of the Heart, and was most recently used again in a production at the Watergate Theatre. The table returned to the stage 34 years after its first appearance.

34 years in theatre and it never had to learn any lines. 😄

What a whirlwind of a year 2025 has been! So much happened in Barnstorm, it’s a bit tricky trying to whittle everything down to a neat summary, so we’ve decided to break it down in numbers instead:

1 new Artistic Director
4 Barnstorm Theatre Productions
1 Festival with 3 visiting Productions
1 Youth Theatre Production & 1 Theatre Club Production
4 Venues & 2 Site-Specific locations
72 Actors
46 Creatives & Crew
3,256 Audience (approx. 2,040 of which were children & young people)
90 Youth Theatre Members
3 Summer Drama Camps with 47 children
5 Creative engagement programmes in over 50 schools

It has been a jam-packed year full of brilliant partnerships, collaborations and creativity and we are so grateful to each and every person who has been with us along the way. As we hunker down for some much needed rest over the holiday season, we hope that you are as excited as we are to venture into 2026 where a whole new year of fun, creativity and theatrical magic awaits us!

As 2025 draws to a close it is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our incredible General Manager, Producer, fixer, doer, caretaker and all round gem of a team member, Anja Terpstra.

In January, Anja will return to the Netherlands to take up a new role as the Director of Bibliotheek Drachten, a wonderful community focussed library and cultural events space in the heart of Friesland.

Although we are very sad to see her go, we are immensely grateful for all her work and achievements with Barnstorm over the last few years and we wish her all the best in her new venture.

We have no doubt that she will flourish in her new role and we hope her new colleagues know how lucky they are to have her.

Anja - wij wensen u het beste!

Casting will be by open audition, and all applicants will be given equal consideration, regardless of experience, and or past work with us.

We believe in a diverse and colourful creative environment. We very much welcome applications from trans & non-binary performers, people from ethnic and cultural minorities and people with disabilities/disabled actors.

🎁🎉 We are delighted to be chosen as one of the lucky recipients of the 🎁❤️

With this funding we are able to engage in "See, Play, Create" it's a creative learning programme designed to bridge the gap in youth arts opportunities for young people with disabilities in Kilkenny. We believe every young person has the right to see inspiring theatre, play creatively, and create their own stories on stage.

Through drama and imaginative play, we seek to break down barriers that prevent these young people from participating in cultural activities, ensuring they have meaningful opportunities to explore their creativity.

Tune to RTÉ for the Late Late Show for the most iconic night of TV and start your festive period off with a smile.

Barnstorm Theatre Club presents: 'Cue the Chaos'

Two plays.

One night.

Endless laughter.

Step into a whirlwind of comedy as our One-Act Festival pulls back the curtain on the beautiful chaos of community theatre!

In 'Bad Auditions by Bad Actors' by Ian McWethy a frazzled casting director races against the clock to find the perfect leads—only to face a parade of wildly unprepared, overly dramatic, and delightfully bizarre auditioners.

The madness continues backstage in 'Chaos Behind the Curtains' by Laoise Brownlee where a colourful cast of characters scrambles to hold a production together as everything around them spectacularly falls apart.

From disastrous auditions to backstage blunders, this double-bill celebrates the lovable messiness of live theatre with nonstop laughs, big personalities, and unforgettable moments.

Join us for an evening of theatre where the drama offstage is even funnier than the show on it!
