Who we are…
Asylum Productions is a collaborative affiliation of theatre artists dedicated to the development and presentation of new work: through both new writing and the development of new forms of theatre. Since our foundation in 1998, we have presented a number of critically acclaimed productions of new and contemporary works, touring nationally and internationally. Our flexible structure all

ows us to develop innovative work that is artist-led, creating an eclectic body of work ranging from the re-investigation of an absurdist classic (Bald Prima Donna), to cutting edge contemporary Irish writing (Enda Walsh, Ursula Sarma), to developing new forms of theatre presentation: merging puppetry, physical & object theatre (Cleaner, Red Lola). Our work is production-driven: Asylum does not have an administrative infrastructure. Instead, we work from project to project, in partnership with existing arts and community organisations, venues and festivals; sharing resources, reducing our administrative costs and focusing our financial resources on creating quality theatre.

Well here’s a blast from the past and a wee look at the last lot of massive movement workshops we held as part of The Big Chapel X way back in 2019.

Hello Kilkenny! You know what happened here in 1324?
A rich and powerful woman by the name of Dame Alice Kyteler was accused of heresy along with 11 others.
This summer, we are gathering the city to stage an epic retelling of the Kilkenny Witch Trials and we want YOU to be a part of it.
There’s two main ways CHOIR or DANCE but we’d love some volunteer crew and actors in the mix as well.
We’re looking for all ages, abilities and levels of experience. All that matters is a city, coming together in the telling of its own tale.
C’mon, let’s get together and party like it’s 1324!

Calling all groups! Free Dance And Drama Workshops!
Asylum Productions Kilkenny are currently offering free, one-off dance and drama taster workshops for adults and/or older teens
The 90 minute workshops are open and welcoming to all sizes, shapes, races, genders and levels of ability. No experience necessary.
This is a fun, low pressure way to meet new people and have some craic.
After the workshop, participants who are interested will be invited to join a further series of Free weekly summer workshops, leading to a large scale public performance event for Kilkenny Arts Festival this coming August, based on the story of Alice Kyteler and the Kilkenny Witch Trials.
