Who we are…
Asylum Productions is a collaborative affiliation of theatre artists dedicated to the development and presentation of new work: through both new writing and the development of new forms of theatre. Since our foundation in 1998, we have presented a number of critically acclaimed productions of new and contemporary works, touring nationally and internationally. Our flexible structure all

ows us to develop innovative work that is artist-led, creating an eclectic body of work ranging from the re-investigation of an absurdist classic (Bald Prima Donna), to cutting edge contemporary Irish writing (Enda Walsh, Ursula Sarma), to developing new forms of theatre presentation: merging puppetry, physical & object theatre (Cleaner, Red Lola). Our work is production-driven: Asylum does not have an administrative infrastructure. Instead, we work from project to project, in partnership with existing arts and community organisations, venues and festivals; sharing resources, reducing our administrative costs and focusing our financial resources on creating quality theatre.

Alice Kyteler invites you to her Lughnasadh Get-Down for The Alice Project: Episode 1 – The Demon Dance.

Watch our tutorial video, by our brilliant choreographer Cindy Cummings learn the moves at your own pace, and come dance with us! Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or have two left feet, everyone is welcome. This is about celebrating together, having fun, and becoming part of the story.

We’re getting ready to move!
Dame Alice is throwing a Lughnasa pagan party for the people of Kilkenny AND YOU’RE INVITED! Inspired by one of the historic charges brought against Alice – summoning demons at the crossroads – this is an open-air dance experience like no other.

Our choreographers are busy creating The Demon Dance for Episode 1 - our free open air public event on The Parade on Friday 7th August at 10.15pm as part of The Alice Project - you’ll probably see some familiar faces - and if you like you can learn the dance and bop along with Alice and her cronies!

Spot your friend! This is just a teensy selection of photos to try to capture the magic of bringing the entire cast of The Alice Project together for one magical session where we got to see and hear all 5 episodes in one go.

There's an extraordinary slice of Kilkenny life in this project, people of all ages and backgrounds coming together in the telling of our own history.

Come and see for yourself - as part of Kilkenny Arts Festival from August 7th.
Episode 3 is entirely sold out so get your tickets for the other Episodes asap (don't say we didn't warn you! And definitely don't miss Episode 5 - The Burning.

The Heart of Our Town: A Work in Progress discussion will move from inside the Main Guard to Under the Arches due to the increasingly high temperatures this week. ☺️ ☀️

As part of their ongoing creative engagement with Clonmel, our neighbours Asylum Productions are back! During the festival they’ll be working with community actors to help on the development of their brand-new production for 2027.

Come and join them for a panel discussion and Q&A about the work so far (Everything Must Go! 2022 & Gutted 2025), and a sneak peek at their future plans.

Guest speakers: Shane Grogan, Tipperary County Council Town Regeneration Officer; Architect Niall O’Cleirigh of the community led Making Arklow and Reimagine Tuam projects; Asylum writer/ collaborator Aideen Wylde, together with Asylum co-artistic directors Medb Lambert & Dónal Gallagher.

Now here's a throwback for ye! As we head into production on let's indulge a wee reminisce of The Local from Kilkenny Arts Festival 2023.

The Local was written in lockdown when we thought we might never get back together in a room of more than 10 people.
What a joy to see us all crammed into Sheridan's of Ennisnag.

Written by Medb Lambert, Clare Monnelly and Emma O'Grady - The Local told the story of one night in a small pub, in a small town in 1992.
