The month has seen great progress in Rán An Dálach's Drop the Rent Hikes campaign, with Dublin City Council councillors voting to review the hikes, followed by DCC's Housing and Social Inclusion SPC and the Central Area Committee voting to drop them entirely!

The fight goes on however in the lead up to the budget due in November, so we are not relenting in mobilising tenants against rent increases in a cost of living crisis. Tenants in Dolphin House this week were unanimous that they had not seen any evidence of the supposed maintenance improvements promised, and were resolved that the rents must come down. We won't stop until they have.

Great to have our first CATU Liberties-Rialto branch meeting in The Liberties' liberated social space . Stopping evictions, fighting rent hikes and strategising the take back of our community from speculators, landlords and the neoliberal state. Great energy in the centre and in the area, no better time to get involved and fight for your community!

Our community is not for the wealthy to turn into a playground for tourists. We need homes, not holiday lets.

Tenants Strike Back! Yesterday tenants from across the Liberties and beyond met the call of the Oliver Bond residents to stand up against the cruel and cynical rent hikes imposed without consultation or justification by Dublin City Council.

To the rent hikes, the tenants say: no way, we won't pay!

On March 28th, tenants from across the city will stage a citywide protest to demand the council drop the rent hikes at the Garden of Remembrance, 1pm. Be there!

This Saturday, CATU will be supporting a protest called by the residents of Oliver Bond joined with public housing tenants across the Liberties and beyond, to call on Dublin City Council to drop their cynical and outrageous rent increases on tenants struggling in a cost of living crisis in homes long neglected by the council.

Our members were out hitting the doors (and many, many stairwells 🧗🏻💨) of Dolphin House this dark February evening to talk to public housing tenants about Dublin City Council's planned rent hikes.

The response was unequivocal: these hikes are unjustified, unnecessary and must be resisted. Tenants from across Dublin are intent on coming out to fight them. ✊
