We are the Cork Student Housing Co-Operative, a group of students working with the UCC Co-Operative Society to get a student housing co-operative up and running in Cork City.

We're delighted to announce that we'll be hosting a talk / Q&A with our friends over at Rebel Reads down at their bookshop by the Marina! 📖

We'll be talking a little about the co-operative model, what co-ops actually do, and how they appear and help in so many different facets of life today. We'll also be talking about student housing co-ops and our own mission as the Cork one to combat the ongoing accomodation crisis! 🏠

If you're interested in learning about co-operatives, a student concerned with the accomodation crisis looking for alternatives, or simply have nothing else to do that evening, then be sure to pop down and listen in or ask any questions you may have! Looking forward to seeing you!

We are delighted to announce that three of our members will be represting the Cork Student Housing Co-op at the ESCHA (European Student Co-operative Housing Association) conference 2026 in Heidelberg, Germany! The conference will be held at the Collegium Academicum, a hugely successful German student housing co-op that repurposed old military grounds into over 250 student homes! The conference will span a few days in late September, bringing together members of student housing co-op committees from all across Europe and even North America. It's an oppurtunity to connect with and learn from other co-operators. 👩‍🎓

We're incredibly grateful to and would like to extend a huge thanks to Co-operative Housing Ireland for providing the funding for three of our members to attend the conference, something that would've been impossible without their help! We would also like to thank ESCHA for organising this great oppurtunity and we're looking forward to meeting everyone! 🏘

The Cork Student Housing Co-op AGM will be held at 6pm next Tuesday, the 4th of August! If you're a student or apprentice connected to Cork and want to take action on the accommodation crisis, this is your opportunity! We are aiming to set up co-operative, community-based student housing, designed by students, for students. 🏘

Join us to help create an affordable and not-for-profit housing option for young adults living and studying in Cork. Get in touch if you are interested in running for a position, or simply want to join and listen! Looking forward to seeing you there! 👋

Our fellow UCC students study to pass their exams in the Boole Library and learn in the Boole Lecture Halls. Why not make Boole House a place for students to live, collaborate, and build community? 🤔

🏘️ Imagine the historic Boole House (currently derelict) transformed into a thriving community hub and affordable housing for students.

We would jump at the opportunity to partner with UCC & Cork City Council to make our vision of creating a student housing co-op a reality.

We've seen this model work in other European cities such as Geneva, where the council worked with the local student housing co-op La Cigüe to bring a historical building (Voltaire's old summer home, no less) out of dereliction and back into the community.

With student rents reaching unsustainable levels, too many young people are being priced out of education and forced into precarious and unsuitable housing situations.

Our vision is to offer a community-led & not-for-profit alternative to the current student housing market, creating homes that students can afford while building a stronger sense of belonging and mutual support.

Shout-out to Cllr Niamh O'Connor for raising this question at council, to activists for keeping the pressure on regarding this historical building, and UCC Students' Union CATU Cork for all of the support you give to student renters ✊🏻

On Monday, Breanndán, Cornelia, AJ & Isabel visited the Cork Centre for Architectural Education to assist in the Final Review of the 2nd Year Architecture Student projects.

Their brief was to design a student accommodation complex for Cork Student Housing Co-operative, situated in the derelict site at Devonshire Street West, Cork City.

We asked the students to embody cooperative values onto the design such as -
💚 Community
💚 Connection
💚 Accessibility

Suffice to say we were AMAZED by each and every design 👏🏻 We adored the miniature models and it really helped us to envision what the building could look like.

A++ to all of the students for showing up and presenting their ideas 💡🏘️
