Early this morning Cobh Tidy Towns volunteers joined with Belvelly residents association to clean litter from the Fota Road. It’s been just over 2 months since the council did their annual big sweep and clearance there. Today cups, cans, vapes, nappies, fast food wrappers and a lot more. All tossed from moving vehicles. 9 bags in total gathered!
Keep your rubbish in your vehicle and bin at home PLEASE.

And that’s a wrap on the Singing Walks as Gaeilge in Cobh with Micheál O’Catháin. Today was the Finale and performance together of ‘Cóbh Slán na Loinge’ and ‘Nóiníní Bálla Chóibh’.
Each week lovely gatherings of people have come together noticing wildflowers and pollinators, sharing stories, listening and weaving simple Irish-language song from the places we walked through.
Together we shaped the two new songs, built from nature words and local place names as Gaeilge. Today we sang and hummed in the Garden of Reflection, St Colman’s Cathedral and An Gearrán. The glorious acoustics in the Cathedral contributed to the harmonious arrangement and the accompaniment by Adrian Gebreurs on the organ made it very memorable.
We’re really looking forward to the recording arrangement and footage from the project. Go raibh maith agat Micheál.

Singing Walks as Gaeilge Cobh is supported by CreativeIrl and Cork County Council through the Creative Communities Programme

Full steam ahead for our volunteers this morning with flags put up at East Beach, grass verge white posts painted, cigarette butts hoovered and a disgraceful amount of litter removed from the camber and Kennedy Pier.
Thank you to Cobh Gifts, Souvenirs & Gifts shop for the lovely hats for our volunteers which were invaluable in this mornings weather!
Fantastic to see the flowerbeds planted by the council at West Beach, Ellens & Ticknock and placement of the tiered planters down town along with flowers on the Promenade railings. We appreciate the huge effort and daily cleaning by the council staff in presenting Cobh so well.

The first egg of the season arrived this morning, and in the box with the updated camera system. Hopefully this will allow us to watch the comings and goings of these amazing birds over the course of the season with top of the range imagery.

The approach wouldn’t be the same without the blast of red valerian under the fence and flower boxes on top of the fence providing stunning summer colour and food source for pollinators throughout the season on the Rushbrooke approach to Cobh. Thank you to Doyle Shipping Group for sponsoring the containers 🫶🏻

If you’ve never been to the Bible Gardens in St Benedict’s Priory this is your sign to head up there for a tranquil time exploring this pollinator haven or taking time to rest on the many benches up there. Lovely little paths and different planting as well as many areas left for wildlife not to mention the fabulously restored pond there. Of course a cuppa and cake in the Oasis Tearooms would complete your visit with their daily home baking open from 10 to last orders at 3.30. Just be sure to have cash for payments. And you can also get refills for your Lilys Eco friendly cleaning products here!
Well done to all the volunteers and staff here who make this such a special place in Cobh.

As we head into the adjudication season and the busy summer for Cobh we thank everyone for the efforts made to present Cobh well.
We continue to meet on Saturday mornings but if you’d like to help out for just 1 hour during the week we begin our Tuesday Tidy Up hour this Tuesday and we’d love a hand to keep Cobh shining. All welcome meeting at the Promenade at 7pm on Tuesday.
