It is with profound sadness that Castlebar Kayak Club remembers our dear friend and long-standing club member, Martin Sammon, who passed away unexpectedly on 13th September 2026, following a short illness.
Martin was a hugely valued member of our club and had been with us since the early days. He served as Chairperson and committee member of Castlebar Kayak Club, giving generously of his time, energy and enthusiasm over many years.
He was also one of the founders and driving forces behind Castlebar Special Olympics Kayaking Club, where his dedication and commitment made a lasting difference to so many people.
Martin was much more than a club member. He was a true gentleman, always willing to help and always with time for everyone. Over the years we shared many adventures, laughs and memories on and off the water. His contribution to our club and the wider kayaking community will never be forgotten.
He was a special person who brought so much to those around him, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
On behalf of everyone at Castlebar Kayak Club, we extend our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Beatrice, Sean, Louise, Paul and David, and to all of Martin’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
Rest easy, Martin. Thank you for everything. You will never be forgotten. ❤️
