We're excited to see the swifts have laid the first egg of the year in our nest boxes at ATU Mayo. Just in time for next week's International Swift Conference, taking place in ATU Mayo next week, where we will welcome over 180 delegates from around the world to discuss swifts.

Proud moment for our Applied Social Care students as their mural was unveiled.
This project reflects the talent, commitment and voices of our students, and it would not have been possible without the incredible mentorship and guidance of Dr Sheila McArdle, whose passion and support inspired the journey from idea to reality.
A heartfelt congratulations to all involved in bringing this meaningful piece to life — a lasting reflection of creativity in social care.

Students from the German for the Workplace programme recently visited Berlin with lecturer Jessica Lysaght, to visit sites of cultural interest and put their German into practice.

Our campus was delighted to recently host the 13th International George Moore Conference, featuring research from scholars from Ireland and abroad as well as contributions from local people, steeped in the heritage of Moore Hall. Other highlights of the conference included a visit to Moore Hall, the presentation of a prize for best post-graduate paper, a cultural evening, a choral performance and a dramatic rehearsed reading of one of George Moore's short stories. Many thanks to all who made the event so special.

We were delighted to mark the launch of the PJ Murphy Bursary — a truly special and memorable occasion.
It was a lovely afternoon spent with family, friends, former colleagues, and the wonderful staff and students of ATU Mayo. This bursary is a fitting tribute to PJ Murphy’s legacy, supporting Applied Social Care students as they begin their journey in making a difference in the lives of others.

A brillant trip walking and scrambling trip with our Outdoor and Environmental Education students in North Wales. Crib Goch and Watkin Path on Yr Wyddfa, Y Gribin on Glyder Fach and Tryfan in perfect weather plus a visit to Llanberris Slate Quarries and Beacon Climbing Wall make for a jam packed few days. Plus the group called into Plas Y Brenin, the National Outdoor Training Centre and met up with recent graduate Laoise Flannagan.

An absolutely fantastic week of study exchange in Leiria, Portugal for ATU Mayo Social Care students, together with their lecturer Dr Jarka Velartova. This unforgettable experience gave students the opportunity to collaborate with peers at Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, attend inspiring lectures, explore social care practices from an international perspective, and build lasting intercultural connections. The exchange was filled with learning, shared experiences and meaningful discussions that highlighted the value of global collaboration in shaping future social care professionals. A truly enriching and memorable week that strengthened friendships, broadened perspectives, and celebrated the power of international education in Leiria.
