Reflect

Reflect We have centres in York, Harrogate, Selby & Thirsk. Reflect is the only dedicated Pregnancy Choice and Pregnancy Loss support service in North Yorkshire.

Reflect is a free support service in North Yorkshire for anyone facing a Pregnancy Choice and for those in need of support after experiencing Pregnancy or Neonatal Loss. Reflect opened in York in 2007, Harrogate in 2014, Selby in 2018 and most recently in Thirsk in 2020. Our vision is to see anyone in North Yorkshire, enabled to make an informed decision about a pregnancy choice, without fear, pre

ssure or judgment, and to support those who have been affected by pregnancy loss through miscarriage, stillbirth or termination of pregnancy, or who have experienced neonatal loss. Pregnancy choice? We provide free support to individuals and couples. Giving you space to think & to help you make an informed decision. Our specially trained volunteers will listen and provide you space to think, talk, and work through all your options โ€“ giving you the chance to explore your feelings. We provide information and signpost to local services. We aim to help you look at the three options you have: parenting, termination of pregnancy (abortion) and adoption. Post termination support: We provide free care & support giving you space to share and work through your emotions after having a termination. If you have had a termination you may experience a variety of emotions; some may be unsettling and some may not surface until months or even years later. Reflect can help you work through these emotions. However, you are feeling now, Reflect can give you the time and space to listen as you share your experience in a safe and compassionate environment

Pregnancy Loss? Reflect provides care and support to anyone who has experienced Pregnancy Loss from any cause and at any stage of pregnancy. You may have sadly suffered a miscarriage, molar or ectopic pregnancy or experienced the devastation of a stillbirth or neonatal loss. Your loss may have been a recent occurrence, or it could have happened years or decades ago. You may have experienced one loss, or many. Reflect can help. Reflect uniquely offers 'Reflections: Walking through loss'- a structured-support programme. This programme is provided on a one-to-one basis and will help you to explore the emotional, physical and spiritual effects of your loss(es) and to enable you to grieve and process your emotions. We want to give you hope of coming to a place of acceptance and being able to move forward. Pregnancy Choice, termination of pregnancy and Pregnancy and Baby Loss affect men too. We provide free care & support giving you space to share and work through your emotions. If you have been affected, please do contact us for support and we will give you the same time and space to consider your thoughts and feelings. We can see you on your own or with your partner.

Well done James!! And thank you for cycling so far to raise money for Reflect ๐Ÿ™Œ

James cycled 108 miles on Saturday between each of our four Reflect centres. It took about 11 hours in total and heโ€™s raised an amazing ยฃ550. Thank you so much James!

๐Ÿ’œ And thank you so much to everyone who has generously donated and sponsored those fundraising as part of our โ€˜Get Active this Springโ€™ campaign- you are so appreciated ๐Ÿ’œ

๐ŸŽ‰ Our ambitious goal was to raise ยฃ2,500 and we have reached a massive ยฃ2,340!!! ๐ŸŽ‰

Weโ€™re still in Mayโ€ฆ and so itโ€™s officially still Spring right?!!
If anyone still wanted to boost our fundraising total further, our page will remain open for just a little longer... ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's great to have the valuable work of Reflect acknowledged & appreciated in this current BBC News article.

Anna, a former client comments in this article about the support she received from us following two miscarriages:
โ€œIf I hadn't had [access] to that, I think I would have really struggled," she says.

Sadly, a significant part of our role as a charity involves supporting women who have suffered pregnancy & baby loss who would be struggling a lot less had they received earlier and often more compassionate support.

This article really highlights the lack of current NHS support following miscarriage, until a woman has experienced three losses. Hopefully the work that is being done to challenge the lack of current care, and trial some earlier support will prove successful in establishing change.

Women from across the region share their experiences of accessing miscarriage support services.

Caring for our Mental Health is important for everyone. But if you have experienced pregnancy or baby loss, you might need to offer yourself some extra self compassion for a while.

This Mental Health Awareness Weekโ€ฆ we wanted to share 5 gentle Self-Care reminders with you. Maybe one or two of these might be helpful for you ๐Ÿ’œ

1. Speak kindly to yourself... like you would a friend

2. Allow yourself to make mistakes... remember, no-one is perfect

3. Validate your pain... it might feel hidden, but itโ€™s still there

4. Ask yourself what you need... in this moment

5. And... breatheโ€ฆ take a moment, slowly in through your nose, and slowly out through your mouth. And repeat ๐Ÿ’œ

It can make the world of difference extending self compassion to yourself and exercising some regular self-care.
If you need some extra support, we are also always here- please get in touch:
