We were really pleased to be part of this important conversation with the Domestic Abuse Commissioner and colleagues from the Home Office and Ministry of Justice.

At The Freedom Project, we know how vital it is that survivors’ voices are not only heard, but acted upon. The discussion highlighted the urgent need to simplify access to services, strengthen long-term recovery support, and ensure that children affected by domestic abuse are not overlooked.

We welcome the recognition of specialist organisations like ours and Gateway 4 Women and the crucial role we play in supporting individuals and families across Cumbria.

We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively to drive meaningful change and improve outcomes for survivors in our communities.💜

Thank you Josh MacAlister MP for being our voice

It was a privilege to join the Domestic Abuse Commissioner and ministerial colleagues from the Home Office and Ministry of Justice to meet with survivors of domestic abuse to speak about their experiences of accessing specialist support services and hear their ideas for change.

It was a very powerful conversation. We heard about the importance of removing complexity in navigating services, shifting from crisis intervention to long-term recovery support, and the needs of child victims of domestic abuse – all of these I know will resonate with so many victims and survivors in West Cumbria.

I will continue working with ministers to build on what was discussed as we deliver on the commitments made in the Government's Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy. And as your local MP I am lobbying for more support for fantastic local organisations like The Freedom Project / West Cumbria Domestic Violence Support and Gateway4Women - Workington.

Louis Theroux’s “Inside the Manosphere” is an uncomfortable but important watch.

It highlights the online spaces shaping attitudes towards women, masculinity, control and power and why these conversations matter far beyond the internet.

Misogyny online is not harmless. The messages being shared in these spaces can influence real-world attitudes, relationships and behaviours. That is why we need to keep talking about healthy relationships, respect and the impact of harmful online content.

Watch it. Talk about it. Challenge it.

Please share this post to help keep the conversation going, and tag someone who works with young people, parents or schools.
