Paddlers for Life Windermere final day at the 2026 IBCPC Participatory Dragon Boat Festival, France.
There were 1000 metres timed 'fun' races.

This is my second supporters race. Paul, Jane and I had been allocated to Annapolis Dragons Boat Club and had raced a 200m race on Saturday.

We had one race left on Sunday, a 1000m circular trip round the race lines. However on arrival at their team tent we found it was empty. Their BC team missed a race and so it looked like they had gone home early.

So Paul and I went round tents asking for anyone who fancied another paddle. We got enough and merged with another depleted team.

Pete, the ADBC coach, turned up and helmed the boat.

We’d never met before, let alone paddled together. Some had only paddled a few times previously.

We had someone from every continent on board.

Our time 5 m 11 s. A decent result for any team.

Paddlers for Life Windermere enjoyed the final day at 2026 IBCPC Participatory Dragon Boat Festival with 1000 metre timed trials. A huge 'Thank You' to everyone involved in organising this festival and making it run smoothly. It is wonderful to see so many BCS participants from teams across the world enjoying this event along with their supporters.

Many of Paddlers for Life Windermere members and supporters have arrived for the 2026 IBCPC Participatory Dragon Boat Festival, France at Aix-les-Bains. They prepare to familiarise themselves with the paddling location with practice sessions over the next few days before the festival starts on Wednesday. Meanwhile other members had a great paddling session at our home location on Windermere with a circuit of the northern end of the lake.

This is an international participatory dragon boat paddling festival for breast cancer survivor teams from across the world paddling dragon boats. Paddlers for Life Windermere hosted visitors from HeadwaySouthCumbria to enjoy a dragon boat paddling experience with us. Conditions on Windermere were sunny and relatively calm with gorgeous views and occasional swell from other boats on the water just to make life interesting.
