Become a Friend of Brathay to help young people build confidence, resilience and life skills through trusted experiences that stay with young people long after they leave a residential.

From creative activities and community support to outdoor residentials and youth work, regular giving helps us continue supporting young people to feel more capable, connected and ready for what’s next.

Even a small monthly gift can help support a young person on their journey.

We’re proud to launch Brathay’s 2025/2026 Impact Report. 🌟

A celebration of the young people, supporters, partners, communities and staff who have helped make a difference over the past year.

This year alone, Brathay supported 8499 young people to grow, thrive and build brighter futures, that is over 1000 more young people compared to last year!

As Brathay celebrates 80 years, this report reflects the continued impact of our work across schools, communities and outdoor learning programmes, helping young people feel more capable, connected and ready for what’s next.

We’re delighted to work with organisations like The Rock Youth Project who are creating positive opportunities for young people across Carlisle through free youth clubs and activities.

Hearing feedback like this means so much. 💙

“THANK YOU to you all it was an amazing weekend - the young people had a ball. We'd LOVE to come back at least every year! They just got so much from it, it was amazing.”

This residential was made possible through our Brathay Bursary, a fund that breaks down financial barriers to ensure every young person can access experiences that help them build confidence, connection and belief in what’s possible. Thank you to our Brathay Bursary donors for making this possible.

A gift in your Will could help future generations of young people access trusted experiences that build confidence, wellbeing and life skills that last far beyond their time at Brathay.

From funding hours of youth work in the community to helping young people rediscover confidence, connection and a sense of belonging, every legacy gift helps continue Brathay’s impact for years to come.

For 80 years, Brathay has supported young people to feel more capable, connected and ready for what’s next. A gift in your Will can help ensure that support continues for future generations.

What a week at Brathay! 🌊⛰️

Our Year 7 students have overcome challenges, worked together and most importantly broadened their horizons whilst creating lifelong memories. From ghyll scrambling and canoeing to high ropes, bushcraft and mountain walks, it has been a week full of adventure and unforgettable experiences.

A huge thank you to our Brathay instructors Ben, Annie, Chris, Imogen and Ed, along with all the other Brathay staff who have helped support us throughout the week.

Thank you also to Mr Robinson, Mrs Dansbury, Mr Cartwright, Ms Jeffrey, Mrs McElroy, Dr Fitzherbert, Mrs Ingram and Miss McNally who have supported and made this incredible week possible.

And finally, a big thank you to Mr Brown for organising and being a permanent resident at Brathay throughout!

We are already looking forward to returning with our new Year 7 students next year.

Chuck’s story takes us back to the 1970s, when he first got involved with Brathay leading outdoor trips with young people across the UK and beyond.

What stands out is not just the adventure, but the people. Learning together, trying new things, and figuring it out as a group. It was a time that built lasting friendships and shaped the way Chuck went on to work with people throughout his career.

For 80 years, Brathay has helped people feel more confident, more connected and more ready for what comes next. Chuck’s story is a great example of that in action.

These are the moments that stay with you. The ones that build confidence, wellbeing and life skills you carry into everyday life.

If Brathay has been part of your journey, we would love to hear it. You can share your story here https://www.brathay.org.uk/my-brathay-story/ 💙

A huge thank you to the University of Cumbria, Dr Katie Walker-Small, and the incredible students from the Sports Rehabilitation course for their amazing support throughout the Brathay 10in10.

This fantastic partnership provides the team with expert care and encouragement every single day, helping runners recover, reset, and get back out on the road day after day. Their dedication behind the scenes makes a massive difference and is a huge part of what makes the 10in10 possible.

We’re incredibly grateful for all of your hard work, professionalism, and positivity — thank you for being such an important part of the journey! 👏🏃‍♂️💙

If you’re thinking about applying for the 2027 Brathay 10in10, knowing you’ll have this level of support around you every step of the way is another great reason to take on the challenge.

To celebrate Brathay Trust’s 80th anniversary, we’ve teamed up with Herdy UK to create a very special notebook! We felt it was appropriate to launch it today on Outdoor Classroom Day, something we’re proud to champion here at Brathay 🌿

It features the Herdy characters exploring Brathay and the Lake District, taking part in the same outdoor experiences young people enjoy here every day.

As a National Centre of Excellence for Outdoor Learning, we see first hand the difference outdoor education can make in helping young people build confidence and discover what they’re capable of.

A huge thank you to Herdy for creating this fun and fantastic artwork! 💙

Want to get your hands on one?

You can pick up a notebook from Herdy stores in Ambleside, Keswick, Grasmere, Bowness and Kendal, or from Brathay Hall reception.
