More updates on the work taking place on Helvellyn.

Each team member of the Fix the Fells team tackles a short section of pitching - around 10m in length - joining up as the team progresses, and then leapfrogging further up the path to start the next 10m section. What a view for a workplace!

High five to Bob! Bob has been successful in being appointed to our Area Ranger North and West team role. He will be known to many, having been with Fix the Fells for six years, most recently working in our South team. Not afraid of a bit of mud, he brings a wonderful work ethic, solid technical skills and experience drawn from projects across the Lakes. And he’s a dab hand at hot drinks and homemade soups too!

We are delighted to see him progress into this leadership role. He’ll be leading work on Scafell Pike this year and you’ll also spot him out working on our Helvellyn project too.

Say hello to Bob if you see him out and about!

Something to cool you down? Our rangers may be basking in sunshine today but that's not always the case. Here's a look back to February. This is our ranger team on their way up Helvellyn from Swirls, to put out signs advising the public of the heli-lift. You can see it was quite windy!

Photos from our 2-day work party on The Band, Langdale with 13 BMC British Mountaineering Council volunteers and 4 Fix the Fells volunteers, led by one of our rangers.

Get Stuck In offers an opportunity for BMC members to give something back to the mountains they love and to learn about erosion repair and upland path work.

BMC also gifted Fix the Fells some work gloves, which were immediately put to good use – thank you!
Work included reprofiling a large peat hag, to close over exposed peat and stem further erosion. Path definition work was completed, encouraging walkers to stay on a single sustainable path line, but repositioning boulders and landscaping with soil and turf.

This month, Fix the Fells rangers started work on their biggest project of the year! They are tackling erosion on the route up Helvellyn from Swirls, Thirlmere. 🏔️

Rangers will be working at around 750m altitude for several months, repairing wide-spreading erosion caused by the sheer popularity of this route. The original path is being upgraded with modern path work, better suited to the volume of people enjoying this route. Exposed soils will be re-vegetated and landscaping completed to blend all the path work in.

Fix the Fells needs to raise £250k to fund this work! If you can support us with a donation, we’ll be really grateful.
