"Inspired by Beatrix" is a blog series on The Beatrix Potter Society’s website highlighting artists and creators who have been inspired by Beatrix Potter.

This month’s feature takes us all the way to Japan, where we are excited to bring you translator, writer, lecturer and devoted admirer of Beatrix Potter, Yoshie Takahashi.

Yoshie Takahashi has spent more than two decades working in the world of children’s literature under the name Nakai Haruno. She leads a small interpretation and translation company, and she is an active member of the Beatrix Potter Society.

Over the years, Yoshie has built a thoughtful and deeply committed career as a translator, including her work on the V&A biography of Beatrix Potter. She has also shared her insight generously, inspiring many through her lectures in Tokyo that celebrate Beatrix Potter’s enduring legacy.

Artist Lucy Pendrick will be showcasing her watercolours and needle-felted creatures in Tabitha Twitchit’s Bookshop from 1 October to 1 November 2026!

The Whispering Wild is the creative studio of artist Lucy Pendrick, who uses watercolours and needlefelting to bring nature to life.

A message from Lucy: My name is Lucy, the artist behind The Whispering Wild. I create whimsical watercolours and sculptures inspired by the old stories that still wait patiently to be found over hill and dale. I feel honoured to be exhibiting at Tabitha Twitchit’s as Beatrix Potter has always been an inspiration to me, and I’d love to return some of the magic she unknowingly instilled in my heart.
