While we are on the subject of kennel boys, meet SSDR Hunter, a.k.a. Hunter with a C, the 4-year-old Husky x Labrador who has been in kennels for just over a year.

Hunter isn't really looking for a human, but it would be nice to have a home that will tolerate his big, bad attitude... He is an extremely independent boy who will do what HE wants, WHEN he wants and HOW he wants to do it. Unless you are Auntie Chloe, and butter wouldn't melt!

At kennels, he loves to tell other dogs off who he sees through the fencing, steal other dogs' toys that are left behind and hoard them in his bed. Hunter is definitely an only child and will not share a home with any other animals. He will resource guard high-value items, and if he is chasing small critters, it is a lost cause. Hunter by name, Hunter by nature.

Hunter is food and toy motivated, so he can be persuaded easily. He could do with losing some weight and getting into a good exercise routine, as he is a lazy boy, but he is reactive on a lead, so a quieter environment would suit him best. Despite his funny quirks, he does love a fuss on his terms, especially those belly and butt rubs.

If you are an adult-only home looking for a sweet, independent, stubborn lad to join your home, please get in touch www.saintssleddogrescue.co.uk/adoption 📲

Check out another one of our long standing kennels boys looking for his forever home 🐾🏡

Eldur is a 9-year-old woolly Malamute looking for a foster or forever home. He hasn't been in a home environment for some time so will need time to settle back into this.

He is looking for a child free, pet free home all to himself. Eldur will need a family who have experience with the breed, specifically around resource guarding.

Eldur is a very sweet gent who takes some time to get to know his humans but didn't mind attention in his terms.

If you can offer Eldur a foster or forever home please get in touch www.saintssleddogrescue.co.uk/adoption 💻

Guess who is back in the cards and looking for a forever home?

Our pocket-rocket Wren is back looking for a forever home after being ghosted by a prospective home 😭

Wren is just one year old and absolutely dinky. She found herself in the pound and was due to be put to sleep until we stepped in and saved her.

Wren absolutely loves other dogs and currently lives happily with six others. She loves playing with them all and has plenty of energy. She is incredibly fast when she gets running, and today she discovered that birds are also great fun to chase!

But Wren isn't all go. She also loves nothing more than snuggling up with you. She is an expert cuddler, loves to spoon and will happily lie next to you all evening. She is also your shadow and will follow you everywhere. You have to be quick getting through the door, because if you're going somewhere, Wren is coming too!

She will need a home with other dogs, as she absolutely thrives in canine company. She cannot live with cats. She is good with children.

Wren is available for adoption so you can apply to adopt her via our website www.saintssleddogrescue.co.uk/adoption 💻

Can anyone offer our kennel boy Odin a placement in their home?

Odin is a 9-years-young Alaskan Malamute looking for an experienced forever home. He has been in foster care for over 1500 days!!

Who can give this older boy a fresh start?

Odin is looking for a pet free, child free family who will take their time in getting to know him.

As he hasn't been in a home environment for a long time he will need a family that will help him transition back into this and have experience with resource guarding.

If you can offer Odin a foster or forever home please get in touch www.saintssleddogrescue.co.uk/adoption 💻

Our gorgeous 10-year-old Huskies are, unbelievably, STILL looking for their forever home together. And we think we know why…

We know adopters can sometimes be put off by the idea of taking on a duo. But before you scroll past, hear us out, because there are some VERY good reasons why adopting two dogs who already love each other is actually pretty great 👇

1. They keep each other company.
A built-in best friend is included!

2. They entertain each other.
Which means sometimes you get to sit back, relax and simply enjoy the show.

3. They help each other settle.
Moving into a new home can be scary, but having their familiar buddy by their side can make everything feel a little less daunting.

4. They tire each other out.
Never underestimate the power of a good sibling play session!

5. They already know and love each other.
No awkward introductions and no wondering whether they’ll get along, these two are already a team.

6. Double the trouble or twice the fun?
Get your camera ready, because your photo feed will NEVER be the same again. 📸

7. And, most importantly… twice the love.
Four ears to scratch and TWO happy faces waiting to greet you when you come home after a long day.

And these two really do deserve their happy ending.

Before coming into rescue, Lila and Loki had spent their lives shut inside a flat, with no walks, little attention and without even being housetrained.

Since arriving in their foster home, they have come such an incredibly long way. They’ve discovered walks, love, attention, routine and what it feels like to be properly cared for. Now we just want them to find a home of their own.

We’re looking for a quieter home where Lila and Loki can finally relax and enjoy the life they deserve. They’ll need to be the only dogs in the home as Loki can be protective of Lila, with no small furries. Older, dog-savvy children would be absolutely fine, but as they can sometimes be spooked by lots of noise and commotion, a calmer household would suit them best.

If you can offer this AMAZING duo a forever home, please get in touch www.saintssleddogrescue.co.uk/adoption

Yesterday was, without doubt, the saddest day in SSDR’s history, as Athena — Saints Sled Dog Rescue’s number one mascot, our Princess, our saviour, and the reason SSDR started over 13 years ago, passed away in the loving arms of her mom, best friend, and founder of our rescue.

Yesterday, we saw not only an iconic and legendary little girl leave us; we saw her human break into a million pieces.

Because of this AMAZING duo, Saints Sled Dog Rescue was born.

Over 1,500 dogs have been saved to date. Like-minded individuals have been brought together to build a family and a network rescuing sled dogs UK-wide. Friendships have been formed, and owners have found their beloved pets.

Without Athena, none of this would have happened.

Athena was just 6 months old when she was failed by humans. Her life was written off because she wasn’t “perfect” enough for a breeder to sell for profit. She was failed by a rescue who refused to take her because she would cost money, only for her to be handed back to be destroyed — even though she was already sitting on her rescuer’s lap.

But she was perfect to her mom, and she was perfect to us.

Because of all those who failed her, her mom vowed that no dog coming through SSDR’s doors would ever be failed again, no matter their illness, behaviour problems, or age. SSDR would take them in and pave the way to their new future.

Athena has left behind an amazing legacy, built over 13 years with this little girls story at the heart of it all. Her legacy has a future, keeping the memory of this special girl alive and allowing us to keep saving sled dogs in need.

Athena was not only the start of this amazing journey, but she also helped rehabilitate foster dogs within her pack, sat with the old or sick dogs when they needed it, helped raise funds at events around the country, meeting and educating people from all over about what is so special about sled dogs and why SSDR rescues them — NO MATTER WHAT!

Please join us in keeping Athena’s story alive, making sure her memory is unforgettable, and continuing her legacy by keeping on saving sled dogs — NO MATTER WHAT!

Please celebrate Athena's life by sharing photos of all the SSDR dogs who have come through our doors and found their forever family 📸

Run free, Athena. You will be truly missed.

An angel gained her wings and halo, but our world lost one too 🐾💜

Who can offer a foster placement to handsome boy Hugo the 6-year-old Malamute cross?

Hugo is an affectionate boy who has lived which a female dog previously and cats. He isn't keen on boisterous dogs so would prefer a calmer, relaxed play mate.

He is good with children although can be nervous of loud noises so older, dog savvy children would be preferable.

If you can offer Hugo a foster home with SSDR please get in touch www.saintssleddogrescue.co.uk/fostering 💻

Check out golden oldie Layla the 13-year-old Husky looking for a forever home 🏡

Layla is THE sweetest girl who adores children and loves her wobbly walks to the park. Being an older girl she does need to strengthen her muscles but would be fine going for shorter walks more often to go at her pace.

She is good with other calm natured dogs but no cats unfortunately.

Layla is house trained, travels well and LOVES some old lady zoomies to break up her day.

If you can offer Layla a forever home to rest her paws please get in touch www.saintssleddogrescue.co.uk/adoption
