Tynemouth WI Meeting every 1st Monday of the month (except Jan) 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start. Come see us at Holy Saviours Parish

Tynemouth WI strives hard to provide a mix of activities and events as diverse as our members. From learning skills which our parents and grandparents were accomplished in and which are no longer seen to be required life skills. For example knitting or sewing, learning about the roles and lives of women from different era’s and cultures, learning self-defence, jewellery making, photography and learning to cook Mexican food. Last month a few of us had the most amazing tasting menu experience Honey Pearls | Greek Patisserie & Bakery 🇬🇷 at Whitley Bay. We had a fantastic night and would like to thank the owners and their team for being such wonderful hosts. We will definitely be back! The food was truly delicious and it felt like we had a little mini break in Greece 🇬🇷 We also enjoyed a drink beforehand District where we had such a lovely time we unfortunately forgot to take photos. So we will need to go back there again too 😂

We had great fun last night learning all about C***r and Perry from the lovely Susie Mansfield of The Station House - Durham Micropub and Fram Ferment - Bottle Shop & Taproom in Framwellgate Moor. One or two of the bottles decided they would give us a lively display when Susie opened them after her journey from Durham so we had to decamp to the kitchen until they started behaving again 😂 It was so interesting hearing about the different types of c***r and Perry, and of course many of us took the opportunity of tasting 3 of the different varieties Susie had brought along for us to try. Thanks to Hilary who baked some absolutely delicious cakes for us all. Also thanks to Gee for getting the raffle prizes this month and congrats to the lucky winners.

What a wonderful day we had today for our annual summer trip. This year we went to Raby Castle and it was fabulous! Our ticket gave us access to the Castle, the Park and Gardens all of which were really good. The Castle was so impressive and hearing about its rich history was very interesting. We also timed our visit perfectly to see the Castle in Bloom Floral Display which is currently installed in the Castle. The deer made an appearance in abundance and it was lovely to see them in such beautiful surroundings. We had a delicious lunch in the vinery and also enjoyed the coffee, cake and ice cream in the garage cafe. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I have a feeling many of us will return with family and friends in the future. Thanks in particular go to Judith for being chief organiser and making sure we all got the bus home safely!

As seems to be a tradition now, our annual garden party took place in the hall due to the summer weather having different plans to us ☔️ However it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits and we had a lovely evening. We were entertained by the fabulous Pipers Fancy who played the Northumbrian pipes beautifully and also gave us a potted history of the pipes including many stories of local interest. Thanks also to the 3 lovely visitors from Pegswood WI who joined us and very kindly donated a prize for the raffle! Speaking of the raffle we had a selection of great prizes (thanks Rachel for organising). Thanks to Judith and Joan M for baking and to Maureen S for donating an extra cake too! Everything was delicious!

We had a really great talk from this evening. Gemma told us lots of interesting information about what we can forage locally and the nutritional benefits of a variety of plants such as nettles, dandelions and sorrel to name but a few! We had some wonderful raffle prizes, well done to the lucky winners. Thanks to Gee, Helen and Lynn for baking this evening.

What a great day out we had today. We had a full guided tour from a couple of the fabulous volunteers what a fabulous place! The wild weather certainly didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of Phil and Steve who gave us an interesting and detailed tour around the garden and the tower itself. The views from the top were incredible and we were all pleased we braved the ‘stumble stairs’ to the top. After the tour we walked along to where we warmed up and tucked into the lovely food and hot drinks. We got a good soaking with the hail and rain on our way back to the coach but it was well worth it. Thanks so much to Deborah and Judith for organising the trip and the transport. Would recommend this to anyone it was a lovely day out.

We had a great night last night at our May meeting, which is also our anniversary meeting. We had a special cake to mark our 16th year, how time flies! We also had come to give us some training to align with the ‘Bystanders can be Lifesavers’ Campaign which was the 2025 Resolution. Brian, Ian and Wendy were fantastic and we all came away with some hands on experience and a lot more confidence and knowledge to step in to help if ever we should need to. The raffle this month was in aid of the Air Ambulance and the lovely selection of prizes were organised by Deborah, thanks Deb! Thanks to all our lovely members and the visitors who turned out despite it being bank holiday. The hall looked great with all the colourful bunting up too which made the birthday celebrations even more special!

We had a very interesting evening with Tony Stephenson at our meeting last night. He shared with us a huge variety of clips from films that had scenes shot in Newcastle and the surrounding area. We saw historical footage of places that now no longer exist, many people had a trip down memory lane. It was a surprise to find out how many stars had walked the streets of Newcastle. Tynemouth and Whitley Bay also got in on the act! Thanks to Deborah for once again buying lovely raffle prizes. We also had a gorgeous variety of cakes for the meeting many thanks to Linda and Carole for baking. Thanks also to those who came early and helped set up it was a great help with many of committee enjoying well deserved time away.
