The final numbers for last week's Tango Charity Ball...

We raised £904.77 after costs for Blue Spirit sailing.

A massive "thank you" to everyone who helped to make this such a success - whether you helped to organise the ball, curated the wonderful playlist, volunteered to help on the night, donated amazing tombola prizes, performed to a wonderful audience or - most importantly - came along and helped to make the evening the success that it was.

See you next year! Provisional date is Saturday 9th October 2027.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the ball last night and helped to make it such a wonderful evening. It was lovely to see so many people there, enjoying themselves and supporting a great cause.

A special thank you to everyone who helped make the evening happen, particularly Angela, Li and Grezo. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes at these events, and without their help the ball simply wouldn’t have been the success it was.

Thank you too to Yvonne, who very kindly donated her wonderful hand-painted cards; to everyone who donated prizes for the tombola; and to Andi and Angie from Milonga Argentine, along with everyone else who so generously made a donation.

A massive thank you as well to Martin Henry and Angela for doing such an amazing job as our DJs and keeping us dancing throughout the evening.

And, of course, a huge thank you to and for their amazing performance — a real highlight of the evening.

We’re still waiting for a couple of donations to come through, so I can’t give you the final figure just yet, but I’m delighted to say that we’ve already raised more than £880!

Most of all, thank you to everyone who came, danced, helped, donated and supported us. It really was a lovely evening, and we couldn’t have done it without you all. ❤️

We’re also hoping to have some photos from the evening to share with you very soon — so watch this space! 📷

We know that people come to the Ball to dance!

So this year we're dispensing with the interruptions of the raffle and auction and having a tombola instead.

Buy a ticket at your leisure and choose your own prize.

It's £1 per ticket, but the odds of winning are better than with a raffle.
We have some higher-value items where the odds are lower, but it's still a great opportunity to go home with something special!

Among the prizes we have:
- A limited edition print from our own Artist-DJ Tim
- A selection of hand-painted cards from our own Artist-Dancer Yvonne (there will also be cards to buy £5 for 5)
- A number of cold-cast sculptures from local artist Tom Olley
- Various bottles and chocolates
- Some books on Tango
- A selection of bags

We will still gratefully accept any donations for the tombola.

See you on Saturday - don't forget to bring some spare change... 😉

The countdown has begun...

Only six more days until the 6th Tyneside Tango Charity Ball!
Dust off your bow tie, polish those shoes and make sure your sequins are shiny.

We have
- Classic Tango (7:30 to 10:30) from DJ Martin.
- Alt Tango (10:30 to midnight) from DJ Angela.
- A guest performance from Guillermo Torrens and Alexandra Wood.
- A tombola with some wonderful prizes.

Tickets are starting to go fast - make sure you get yours!
£20 in advance, £25 on the door.

Many thanks to Andi and Angela from Milonga ArgenTyne for their amazing gesture!.

As you may know, any donations made at their monthly Milonga al Fresco at the Ticket Office in Whitley Bay are donated to charity.

Yesterdays event raised £150, which has they have kindly donated to our 2026 Tango Ball. This money, along with all other monies raised (after costs, of course) will be passed to our charity this year - Blue Spirit.

If you're feeling generous (because, you know, shy bairns get nowt), then please feel free to make your own donation to our charity!

Do you want to know more about our chosen charity this year? As usual they are a small local charity so everything we raise will make a big difference.

Blue Spirit is passionate about improving the mental health of young people.

You are probably aware that young people are struggling with depressingly long waiting lists for mental health support.
But did you know that 75% of mental health problems start before the age of 24? This is why it’s important to reach people as early as possible.

Blue Spirit provides access to activities in blue spaces for young people aged 14-25, with a focus on sailing, and on reaching struggling young people from disadvantaged communities. They get a chance to step out of their comfort zones and experience the freedom of the waves - an impossible dream for many.

You may already know that being in blue space has a calming effect. Being in or near water, reduces stress and anxiety, lowers the heart rate and boosts creativity. At the same time, sailing itself has been shown to provide multiple benefits such as helping develop essential life skills, self-confidence and resilience.

Since Blue Spirit began in 2021, it has supported around 350 young people to go sailing, with life-enhancing, life-changing and even life-saving effects.
