CALLING ALL COMEDY WRITERS… TIME IS RUNNING OUT! ✍️😂

Applications for Sketch for Sammy 2026 close Saturday 12th September, so if you’ve got a funny idea sitting in your notes, now’s the time to get it written!

We’re looking for aspiring comedy writers from across the North East to submit their own five-minute comedy sketch.

Six finalists will be selected, receive mentoring to polish their scripts and see their sketches brought to life by professional actors at our live final. 🎭

And one writer will take home the Clement and La Frenais Comedy Award! 🏆

GOT A FUNNY FIVE MINUTES IN YOU? 👀✍️

We’re on the hunt for the next generation of North East comedy writers for Sketch for Sammy 2026! 🧡

Whether you’ve been writing for years, have a sketch sitting unfinished on your laptop, or you’ve always thought “I could write something funnier than that…” this is your chance to prove it. 😉

Six finalists will see their sketches professionally performed live on stage, receive mentoring to help polish their scripts and compete for the Clement and La Frenais Comedy Award.

And who knows where it could lead… the winning sketch could even make its way to the Sunday for Sammy Arena show in 2028. 👀

26 DAYS TO GO! 🏃‍♂️

The countdown is officially on… just 26 days until the Great North Run!

This year’s Sunday for Sammy fundraising running team brings together actors, musicians and supporters with strong links to the North East, all taking on the challenge to raise money for the next generation of local talent.🧡

We’re delighted to have Louis Healy and Riley Jones, two familiar faces from ITV’s Vera, joined by musician Ben Harwood, as well as Roselle Oberholzer, Elaine Small, Freddie Miles, Dan Irwin, Ben Griffin and Wayne Abbott. 👏🏻

Their efforts will help the Sunday for Sammy Trust continue providing grants, bursaries and opportunities for emerging North East talent.

And you don’t have to be part of our official team to get involved! Individuals can run the Great North Run for Sunday for Sammy too and fundraise to support young talent across our region😊
