A change to Women’s Institute membership policy affecting transgender women has prompted the resignation of Avening WI President Jo Harwood after more than 25 years of membership.

Two years ago we were asked by our local farmer if we could supply an afternoon tea for his wedding. We like a challenge and yesterday all the planning, baking and hard work paid off. Avening WI provided a wonderful spread which received many compliments, and even an offer of marriage!
A wonderful team effort by our amazing members.

A group of members enjoyed a visit to Chavenage House today with an entertaining talk by Caroline Lowesley-Williams, a guided tour of the interesting rooms and artefacts, including the recent history as a film location, and a Cream Tea in the ballroom.

Perfect day for a stroll along part of the Thames and Severn Canal today- wildflowers, ducks and moorhens, shoals of fish and lots of history- and a very tasty lunch at The Long Table.

A very busy but successful event when Avening WI hosted the Tetbury Group Meeting yesterday. Thanks to our excellent committee our Celebration of Poetry evening was much enjoyed. Wonderful food, a good number of competition entries and a very entertaining speaker, the poet Dalziel Ellis.

2nd stage of the Wysis Way today through the Forest of Dean. 10 members and 3 dogs walked nearly 8 miles. Perfect weather, amazing scenery and great company

Rob from Guideposts Trust came to our meeting last night to receive a cheque donated from the proceeds of our Village Quiz. The Hub in Stroud provides a friendly and vibrant place where adults with learning disabilities can come together to make friends, have fun, learn new skills, gain confidence and get involved in the local community. The money will be used to help fund a trip for their members.

The rain stopped just in time today for our walk from Minchinhampton Common to Besbury Common and back, finishing with a delicious lunch at The Old Lodge, where the amazing cheese soufflés proved popular.

A few photos taken at the start of the Avening Village Fete today. Two very busy hours later we were sold out with lots of happy customers.
Great team effort! Could qualify for The Big Help Out as we helped raise money for the village and church.

Very enjoyable evening with Stonehouse WI playing a friendly skittles match. Stonehouse won by a small margin. Thanks to Gwyn, our skittles captain, for organising.
