Congratulations to Cadets Bull and Storer on completing their Silver Leadership, Cdt Cross for achieving Blue Music and Cpl Wheatley and Sgt Bradley on completing DTC(I), where Sgt Bradley won Top Student!

✈️ 1211 VISIT TO COGNAC AIRSHOW ✈️

In May FS Wileman and Sgt Davidge visited Cognac airshow, see below post event report by Sgt Davidge

French Air Cadets (Escadrilles Air Jeunesse – EAJ):

Ages range from 12 – 25yrs, but after 17 can have the option to become an officer cadet and are part of the reserves

They do not have a rank structure but do have pins on their lapel/collar on flight suits to signify how long they have been in the organisation – Bronze 2 years, Silver 3 years and Gold 4 or more years

Uniform is a flight suit with patches to show they are part of the EAJ and only get one unless needing a new one

Have a national competition in sports and cadets represent the Air base/ location they are affiliated with

They don’t have shooting as part of their activities as they cannot legally shoot until 17 – they were very interested and surprised when we mentioned that we could shoot not long after joining.

The French chief of Air and Space Force staff mentioned that he wants the EAJ to be similar and have similar opportunities as the RAFAC does

We showed the EAJ the different uniforms that we wear for different activities – seemed somewhat jealous of our Wedgewoods and wished they had a ceremonial uniform like ours
We also told the EAJ what activities we do and showed pictures of our brassards to some of them
Managed to trade to get their formation patch that they wear on their flight suits

Airshow and Base Experience:

Freedom given during Airshow was lovely as we got to experience the Airshow at out pace and were not rushed anywhere and was given ample notice if we needed to meet up at a specific time

Was able to enter the VIP area when meeting the French Chief of Air and Space staff and was able to watch some of the airshow in the VIP area

Accommodation was incredibly nice and the mess food was somewhat better that UK base food

Overall was an incredible experience not only meeting the EAJ and seeing how their organisation works but also meeting Air Cadets from across the country and seeing how different Sqns work. Plus it is always great to go to an Airshow and see aircraft

25 cadets. 10km around the East Midlands Airport Trail. A visit to the East Midlands Aeropark. And a Hollywood theme to make it memorable - certainly for the fellow walkers!

1211 Goes Hollywood — and they absolutely delivered.

Massive well done to every cadet who took part today. You should be proud.

✨It's Volunteers Week this week, so it's time to say a huge thank you!!! ✨

Whether they are running parade nights, leading DofE expeditions, supporting flying, running a shooting range, fundraising or simply being there for the cadets

From our Uniformed Staff and Civilian Instructors to our Civilian Committee members (who we don't have many pictures of!); Chaplaincy and Service Instructors, we have so many stories of dedication out there.

Looking at all these photos just shows how much the Air Cadets becomes part of our volunteers lives... In some cases for a very long time!
