Wondering what actually happens at Understanding Later Life Care? 👀

It isn’t a legal lecture and you don’t need any prior knowledge.

We talk through the subjects families commonly come across, explain the terminology in plain English and give you space to ask questions. There’s also a drop-in surgery afterwards for anyone who wants to speak to the team.

Lasting Power of Attorney is one of those things many people mean to look into “at some point”.

The important part is that it has to be arranged while the person still has the mental capacity to make that decision.

That’s why planning earlier can make things much clearer later.

Knowing your options before you need them can make a difficult situation much easier to navigate.

MYTH BUSTER ❌✔️

❌ Myth: A dementia diagnosis means someone can no longer make their own decisions.

✔️ Not automatically. Mental capacity is decision-specific and can change. A person may be able to make some decisions but need support with others.

Understanding the difference matters, particularly when families are starting to make plans around care and support.

Following the success of our recent pilot session, we're pleased to officially launch Understanding Later Life Care, part of our new Information and Awareness Programme at Stockport Advocacy. 💙

The session is designed to help people better understand later life care, their rights and the decisions they or someone they care about may face.

It's all part of our commitment to supporting the local community, sharing our knowledge and helping people feel more informed and confident when making decisions or speaking up for themselves or someone they care about.

A big thank you to everyone who attended our pilot session and shared their feedback. Your input has helped us shape a session that we believe will make a real difference to people across Stockport.
