This short video really captures the spirit of the Great Scottish Craft Hoolie for us - a wonderful group of people gathering together as a community, sharing skills, knowledge, and plenty of laughs.

Thanks to everyone who came along to the event, all our trainers and crew, everyone who helped spruce up the site, and everyone who supplied us with great produce for the kitchen.

Same time next year? (PS - that will be 13-15 August 2027!)

Lovely case study by Social Investment Scotland on our charcoal and it’s importance to our wider work:

A £30,000 Community Finance loan from Social Investment Scotland (SIS) helped Green Aspirations CIC replace a failing charcoal kiln, securing a vital income stream that funds outdoor learning, traditional crafts and community wellbeing programmes across rural Stirling.

Starting with a spoon blank that’s still green, but ready for the final knife cuts to reveal the finished shape. This workshop will help you to explore how to achieve a silky smooth knife finish.

The Great Scottish Craft Hoolie 2026 workshops:

Learn how to create natural ink and brushes in this beginners level workshop. You will experiment with mark making, creatively exploring the texture and marks achieved from natural materials. At the end of this workshop, you’ll have made your own ink and paint brush as well as a series of sample marks for use in a sketchbook, to display or give as a gift.

All tools and materials are provided. Suitable for complete beginners, no prior experience of painting or nature based crafts is needed.

The Great a Scottish Craft Hoolie 2026 workshops:

Learn to make your very own container out of wood in this shrink pot workshop with Craig. Shrink pots are made from hollowing a freshly cut log and then fitting a dry wooden base so that, as the log dries, it shrinks around the base. Magic! And a technique that’s been used throughout history for everything from liquids to spices to trinkets.

Join Coin-Operated Press to discover all the ways in which we can add botanical elements to our zines! Never made a zine before? Never even heard of a zine before? Wondering what the heck we’re talking about?! Come along and discover the wonderful world of zine-making! We will show off some botanical-inspired zines from our collection so you can get a good idea of what zines are all about! We will have a selection of pressed flowers, some foraged leaves and flowers from my garden, as well as all the equipment we’ll need to capture our botanicals! We will go through all of the steps to press plants, print plants, stick plants, and more! and we will then fold mini-zines to use as mini-sketchbooks to explore and play with these new techniques! Please note: if you have hayfever, or allergies to any plants/botanical elements - this event might not be for you as we will be using real plants in our zine-making! or make sure to take an antihistamine before attending.

Join Jo at our on-site charcoal forge and get creative with a 200mm length of mild steel round bar - different diameters available. This might be a wall hook, key ring, S-hook, bodkin, or whatever else catches your imagination.
