As part of Rotary in Callander's initiatives to support young people in our community, every year we donate £500 to McLaren High School. Each year the school choses how they wish to spend the money. In the last year they decided to refurbish a variety of musical instruments that included a piano and many guitars.

This is just one of many ways that Rotary in Callander support our community and make a difference to people's lives.

If you would like to learn more about what Rotary in Callander do, or attend one of our meetings please do not hesitate to get in touch. You will be guaranteed of a warm welcome. We are regular women and men within our community, who want to give back some of their time to make a difference in our community. Just like Chiara and Gavin who have joined us in 2026, that could be you too. We look forward to you getting in touch. Please message us on our page.

On 19th May, Rotary in Callander were delighted to welcome another new member to our group, Gavin Ryans. Gavin is pictured with our current President Michael Kay where he, along with all our members, warmly welcomed Gavin into our group.

Already a volunteer at the Ripple Retreat, Gavin was keen to contribute more into our community and connect with others who share a commitment to service and community building.

Making a difference in our community is exactly what our small but very friendly group of people focus on as Rotary in Callander. We all care about trying to give something back, even in a small way and one of the joys of Rotary is the variety of ways we can give back. This could include but certainly not limited to:

- Engaging with P7 pupils from primary schools across our area as part of our annual primary school quiz
- Generating charitable funds to support a variety of charities or good causes such as Start up Stirling, CHAS, the Air Ambulance service or a significant current focus of generating funds for the new Callander Primary School library.
- Maybe something larger like one of our previous projects such as fundraising for defibrillators for our local police cars who are first on the scene of incidents but didn't have access to key equipment to save lives.
- Engaging with seniors in our community, providing laughter and engagement when we run our regular Bingo events
- Supporting people abroad in desperate need of shelter after a disaster or providing clean water to enable their local economy to grow and health to benefit

Ordinary members of our community, just like you have said 'Yes' to give up a little of their time whilst collaborating and socialising in our friendly group. Our Club has been giving back to our community and beyond for over 55 years but we actively want to welcome new members to help support us over many more years!

We'd be delighted if you would take that leap too and come to find out a little more about what Rotary is about and how your experience and skills can help. Giving back is extremely rewarding and satisfying knowing you have made a difference. Rotary is open to anyone 18+ years old.

Don't delay, make that change to give something back and message us today through our Facebook site. You can be guaranteed of a warm, friendly response and we're confident you won't regret your decision.

A huge thank you to every one who supported our Coffee Lunch and Crafts event on Saturday 2nd May at Callander Kirk Hall. Without the support of the community at our events we wouldn't be able to raise the funds to support important charitable causes.

We're delighted to confirm that the event raised just under £900 gross (some expenses such as hall hire to be deducted), the nett will be allocated to our charitable causes fund. This specific event normally generates funding to support international causes like Rotary’s own charity Rotary Foundation. However we took the decision in the light of the terrible impact on Jamaica from Hurricane Melissa last November, that we would divert some our Charity funds to support the people in need in that moment. The funds from this coffee lunch and crafts will backfill these funds already donated last year.

A theme for our Rotary fundraising for most of this year will be to generate funds to support purchasing books for the new Callander Primary School library. We have already raised funds for this from our Easter Bottle stall and will continue fundraising for this very worthwhile cause at other events later this year.

We'd also like to say a huge thank you to all Friends of Rotary and members of Rotary in Callander who helped with the organisation of this event, without your help it wouldn't be possible to hold such an effective event. This included the ladies from Callander Tangent.

Thank you to all the Crafter and Charitable organisation stall holders who are an integral part of the event. Again we couldn't hold this without your unwavering support - so thank you!

Just like our recent two new members, please message us for a friendly chat to learn how you could make a difference in our community through Rotary in Callander. Please message us on our page.

Following the introduction of this event in 2014, Rotary in Callander were delighted to again hold our annual Primary School quiz on March 5th at Callander Primary School. As usual it was a wonderfully energetic event with a P7 team participating from all 11 Primary Schools that feed into McLaren High School.

All teams were very enthusiastically striving to win the Cup that is engraved with the winning school name. Certificates of the event were provided to all team members to recognise their commitment and contribution. After 10 rounds of questions the Aberfoyle Primary School team of were announced winners, each member receiving a £15 book gift card. Congratulations to the Aberfoyle team of Berkley, Joe, Andrew and Michael pictured with Rotary in Callander members Mhairi Stewart and quiz facilitator John Isgrove.

The Aberfoyle team will now move forward in May to the semi-final at Stirling University to compete against primary schools from around Stirlingshire, Perthshire and Clackmanackshire. The top two teams from the semi final will then compete in June against schools from across northern Scotland in the final at the Aberdeen Ballroom.

From everyone in Rotary in Callander, we wish Aberfoyle Primary School team the very best of luck and have fun!
