Our trip spotlight this week is ✨Eden Camp Yorkshire✨.

Next month we will be heading to Yorkshire. Step back into the 1940s at Eden Camp Modern History Museum, once a prisoner of war camp it has been converted into an immersive, living history museum. 🌟

Join us tomorrow for our usual craft afternoon. We will be creating lavender sacks and scent sheets! 😄

No experience is needed and this event as always, is completely free, although we do welcome donations to help us cover our costs 🥰.

This session is lead by our amazing volunteer Lizzie, come along enjoy some time to unwind, chat, and create! We’d love to see you there - no need to book, just show up! 🌟

Our Befriending Service supports the over 55s and/or disabled individuals living in the Broxtowe Borough area of Nottingham (NG9&NG16 postcodes). 🥰

Befriending is a rewarding role for volunteers while also providing vital social interaction and inclusion for our clients. 🌟

As a Volunteer Befriender you will offer up to 2 hours of support a week to a client either in person or over the phone. ☎

The Helpful Bureau is looking for new trustees to join our board and help guide our work supporting older and vulnerable people across the Broxtowe Borough.

As a local charity, we rely on the passion and expertise of volunteers who share our commitment to building a caring, connected community. Our trustees play a key role in shaping our direction, ensuring good governance, and helping us grow sustainably for the future.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in areas such as:

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Health, social care, or community services
📣 Marketing, communications, or fundraising
🤝 HR, volunteering, or governance

☀️ Hot Weather Warning – Please Take Care ☀️

With temperatures rising, we’re urging older people and vulnerable residents to take extra care in the heat. 🧓👵

Here are a few important tips:

💧 Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty
🕶️ Stay cool indoors – close curtains during the hottest part of the day and use a fan if you have one
🧢 Avoid going out between 11am and 3pm – if you do need to go out, wear a hat and light clothing
🍓 Eat light, cool meals – and avoid too much alcohol or caffeine
📞 Check in on neighbours or loved ones – a quick call can make a big difference

☀LUNCH CLUB IS CANCELLED THIS WEEK☀

As a result of the unusual and high heat warning, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our weekly Lunch Club at St. Helen's Church Hall this week - Thursday 13th August.

We know many of our regulars look forward to these social get togethers but it would be irresponsible of us to transport and host our clients in this particular space - we have to think of everyone's safety and well-being.

We are contacting all volunteers and regulars of both groups today so they are made aware of this change.
