South Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership, The Iris and Destination South Ayrshire warmly invite you to join us at Carnegie Library, Ayr, Tuesday 23rd June from 3pm to 6.30pm for a free community exhibition celebrating the good old days in Ayr. Explore a collection of photographs, memorabilia, and fascinating items from the town’s past, and enjoy sharing memories with others.

From Gray’s Factory, the Stamp works and Wallacetown nursery to the dancin’, the pictures, friendships and relationships, this is a wonderful opportunity to look back on the people, places, and stories that helped shape Ayr.

This will be a great opportunity to connect with the community and reminisce on what was a golden time.
Everyone is welcome, and admission is completely free. Come along and take a trip down memory lane!

OiR Two Mile Strollers

This new OiR group had its first walk on Friday 12 June. On a bright and breezy day, five walkers assembled at the car park on Ayr seafront, close to the Air India Restaurant, for the group’s inaugural walk, to Ayr harbour and back. We have other members signed up for the group, but for a variety of reasons, they were unable to attend on the group’s first outing. There was quite a breeze, operating as a tailwind on our outward journey, but blowing in our faces on the way back. Unfortunately, the last bit of the walk took place in very light rain. None the less we all enjoyed being out in the fresh air. We look forward to future walks on other local promenades. Many thanks to Barrie Southwood for setting up, and leading, this new group which caters for anyone who enjoys walking but can no longer cope with longer distances.

Hi folks, look out for this event happening in the Town Hall this Wednesday 10th June 👍

If there are enough people interested, a coach would be arranged with an approximate cost of £20 per person. Otherwise, we would travel by public transport. Oir online Book Club review of Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood

Once again this book gave us food for thought of a future where law and order has broken down; where there appeared to have been ‘them’ and ‘us’ and compounds where people lived and worked. A virus then wiped out humanity, and a race of genetically engineered humans survived, designed to be peaceful, free from conflict and who worshipped the main character Snowman, the only human left. A book which had us thinking, not too many characters to remember and one which would probably be a good movie or TV series. The end of the book was left to our own imagination, and we all had different opinions on that. Our scoring was varied, as it was one of these books I guess, you just felt satisfied at getting through and as I said earlier, we gave credit to the author for her imagination ! we rated it 5 out of 10
