Shaping the future of arts, health and wellbeing in Wales 🎨

The Welsh Government is developing a new 10-year Culture and Sport Strategy for Wales, and we want to ensure that arts, health and wellbeing have a strong voice in shaping its future.

For the first time, culture, sport and the creative industries will be brought together in one national strategy. This is an important opportunity to highlight the contribution of arts and creativity to health, wellbeing and thriving communities across Wales.

Join us for our next WAHWN Network Meeting, facilitated by Laura Drane, CEO of Arts & Business Cymru, as we come together to explore the strategy and consider how we can influence its development.

The Welsh Government is developing a new 10-year Culture and Sport Strategy for Wales, bringing culture, sport and the creative industries together for the first time in one national strategy.

This is a valuable opportunity for the arts and health community to share its experiences, highlight the difference creative approaches make to people's lives, and help shape the future.

Welsh Government is looking for new six new Council members* to join the Arts Council of Wales.

We're keen to hear from people from all kinds of backgrounds who have the skills, experience and perspectives to help shape the direction of the arts in Wales. This is an opportunity to contribute to decisions that support the sector and help more people benefit from the arts.

A message from our CEO Angela Elliott and Trustees:

We want to thank Jain Boon, our longstanding WAHWN Trustee who stepped down from our Board this week. Jain has been with us from the start, bringing a wealth of experience as a freelance practitioner and expertise in the field. Her contribution has been vital to WAHWN’s development, and her focus on wellbeing, and grounding us all, has been so valuable in meetings when we’ve all needed to remember to look after ourselves. We are forever grateful Jain.

WAHWN will be looking to recruit a number of new Trustees in the near future. Further details to follow.

We're enjoying a wonderful day of sharing, listening and connection with Peoplespeakup today. 💚

It’s a great reminder of the value of creating spaces where people feel safe, welcome and able to be themselves.

Participants and volunteers have shared what it means to reclaim their voices, find solidarity and feel a sense of belonging. They have described it as “coming home”. We’ve heard moving poems, personal stories and reflections on the incredible ripple effect the programme has in people’s lives.

Everyone who takes part in the programme helps shape and co-create the programme. We also heard from Ali Franks - The Reconnection Coach about the importance of wellbeing support for staff - a unique and valued part of the People Speak Up approach.

It's a great reminder of the importance of community-based, non-clinical support and the difference it can make when people are given the space, time and support to be heard. 💚
