Our Story
Button & Bear is a family owned and run business which closed its doors in March 2020. Louise & Jon opened Button & Bear on 16th September 2016 with the help of the Gruffalo. Button & Bear was not able to re-open following a series of problems in 2020 including scaffolding, flooding in Shrewsbury & the pandemic. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us and made us feel welcome during our time on Castle Street.
THE BOOKSHOP
Louise has loved books all her life and wants everyone to understand the importance of an early introduction to books and stories. Louise worked for a range of different organisations promoting education to non-traditional learners with a focus on breaking the inter-generational cycle of illiteracy. Louise joined the charity Booktrust where she worked on the early years programme Bookstart before becoming Head of Social Inclusion, Head of Research and then Director of Programmes responsible for developing and delivering reading programmes across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The aim of the bookshop is to provide a wide range of books to inspire parents and children to help them develop a love or reading. We also stock a small number of books around parenting & books for those of us interested in children's literature and illustration.
