874 - Sherborne Air Cadet Squadron RAFAC youth organisation Ask yourself....can you live up to the challenge? Make something of your life...GET INVOLVED...CHALLENGE YOURSELF!

The Air Training Corps is a national, uniformed, youth organisation that offers its members a wide range of challenging and exciting activies. Cadets are given the opportunity to go flying, gliding, shooting, parachuting, on night exercises, on camps, overseas, etc - and as most of these are RAF sponsored, it only costs £10 per month. Cadets are given training which can be used on CV's, can gain their gliding wings, marksmanships, and even their private pilots licence.

And that's a wrap!

Congratulations to all 9 Participants this weekend that worked with us around the Heat mitigations, to achieve a crazy achievement in this weather. You took on advice, policed yourselves and weren't afraid to tell staff the issues you were facing on the ground at checkpoints, this helped the supervisors to inform their decisions. Well Done!

2 shorter days than originally planned for the bronze and a slightly earlier (0430hrs) start for the Silvers although the sunrise was spectacular!

You all did fantastic this weekend and we look forward to hearing the Silvers Presentation Next Week!

Incredible thanks to the staff team for their work, ensuring a safe and compliant activity. The background work whilst checkpointing teams ensuring we remain within policy and Risk assessments was fundamental to the success of this weekend, and a great learning opportunity for us all!

For now, ice cold beverages and some report writing!

What a start to an action packed The Duke of Edinburgh's Award weekend! FS JJ Ham and CI Josh Twist relived the temperatures of their individual expeditions at Buckingham palace celebrating their Gold Awards but also the 70th Anniversary of the DofE Award. The Gold award wouldn't have been as successful had it not been for Royal Air Force Air Cadets & Tall Ships Youth Trust. Both organisations provide life-changing experiences and TSYT are well worth checking out for your Residential, and/or Expedition!

Anyway what's the rest of the weekend got in store for FS Ham and CI Twist, well it's straight into supporting a combined Bronze and Silver Qualifying Expedition!

Congratulations to FS Ham and CI Twist, & Good luck to the teams this weekend!

Last night former Flight Sergeant Currie was invited back to the squadron by our sector commander squadron Leader Donnelly. Were he was presented with a sector commanders commendation award. For 4 years, 7 months and 16 days of service to the squadron. Attending 91 activities in that time.

We once again wish FS Currie all the very best in his future away from RAFAC and hope that we see him again one day.

Incredibly proud of our cadets this weekend! Not only did they find spaces on local teams themselves, but two of last year's 35's, who didn't make it because of an injury, have successfully completed the 35-mile Ten Tors Challenge. Seven months of training, and a couple of weekends on Dartmoor, have all come down to this. Finishing the earliest the squadron has seen in a while and as a complete team, putting everything RAFAC aims to instill in our cadets into practice, from Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence to fostering the spirit of Adventure. This is what it means to be a Royal Air Force Air Cadet!

Congratulations to Cpl Kerton and Cpl Twist on your efforts for this year's event. You have represented the Squadron with honour, and that medal is very much deserved. We look forward to celebrating with you on our next parade night!

Our civilian committee is holding its AGM.

On Wednesday 3rd June.

Without our civilian committee we wouldn’t be able to run as a squadron, offer all the activities we do and be involved in our local community.

May times there support goes unnoticed and unrecognised, but very valuable to our cadets and young people from our local area.

Right now our committee is small ( hard working but small) and we are looking for new members to help strengthen what we are doing and building.

If you think you could offer some of your spare time to help a worthy cause, please get in touch. There no big time commitments and meetings are around every 3 months.

If your interested or would like more information please get in touch with our OIC FS Lee Currie on

This evening we said a fond farewell to FS Harrison Currie, who after 4 years of service is leaving us to dedicate his time to his studies.

FS Curries time within RAFAC has been filled with the true core values that the Air Cadets stand for.
Respect, Integrity , Service and Excellence. Achieving the highest awards at squadron level, attending camps at wing and national level.also supporting wing DTC courses.

Joining us just after Covid when cadet numbers were low, he has grown and developed at the same time as we rebuilt the squadron. He has supported 4 OCs during his time, being a dedicated cadet, NCO and SNCO, supporting at every opportunity.

We wish him well in his studies and leave our door open for him, if and when the time is right.

Over the last few weeks our 2 flights have gone head to head donating Easter eggs for our yearly Easter egg donation to Trinity Manor Care Home - Barchester Healthcare.

We arrived with arms filled with eggs to the delight of the residents of the home. We gifted eggs to some residents in there communal area and left the remaining eggs for those busy with other things. Residents were very keen to hear all about what we get up to in Rafac and in our squadron, some residents remembered some of our cadets from previous visits which was great to see.

This is just one of many community engagements we take part in and as a squadron we are very proud to be seen in and around our local community.

Massive achievement tonight and a great milestone. Once all the paperwork and behind the scenes work is done the squadron will reach 97% ( 33 cadets out of 34 ) of its cadets with a EFA qualification, a true vital life skill!
Thank you to FS Ham for facilitating this training.
