1st Sherborne Scout Group

27/09/2026

🥷 A new Ninja assault course has opened in Sherborne, and our Scouts were there for the big moment!

Young people from 1st Sherborne Scout Group joined the High Sheriff of Dorset as they officially opened the course at Blackberry Lane play park. We also enjoyed meeting the Sherborne Town Mayor and the President of Dorset Scouts.

We have a feeling this won’t be our last visit to the park!⚜️

🏕️ 1st Sherborne Scouts AGM – Everyone Welcome!

We’d love to invite our Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer families to the 1st Sherborne Scouts AGM.

Now, we know the words Annual General Meeting don’t exactly scream exciting evening out… 😂 but it’s an important part of keeping our Scout Group running, and a chance to hear a little about what our young people have been getting up to over the past year.

⛺1st Sherborne Scouts AGM – Friday 25th September⛺

The evening will look like this:

6:45–7:15pm | Annual General Meeting
A quick look back at the past year across 1st Sherborne, along with the necessary AGM business.

7:30–7:45pm | Group Camp Presentation
A chance to look back at this year’s Group Camp and some of what our young people got up to.

8:00–8:30pm | Finjamboree – Lumo 2028
Find out more about this international Scouting adventure and register your interest. This is relevant to anyone who will be aged 12+ at the time of the event.

You’re very welcome to come for the whole evening, or join us for the parts that are most relevant to your family.

We’d particularly love to see plenty of families at the AGM itself. Our Group only exists because of the volunteers and families behind it, and it’s a good opportunity to hear what’s happening across 1st Sherborne Scouts, not just within your child’s section.

Hopefully we’ll see lots of you there!

It was a big evening for our Beavers this week.

We visited Sherborne Abbey as part of our Faith and World badges to learn more about the Christian faith, the history of the Abbey, and the role it plays within our community. Huge thanks to Reverend Martin for giving up some of his day off to come in and keep everyone entertained while teaching them all about the Abbey and Christianity.

We also welcomed 5 new Beavers properly into the Colony with their investiture. For those who do not know, this is when they make their Scout promise and officially become part of the group. And what an incredible place to make your promise. The Abbey really is a stunning building.

The evening also saw 4 Beavers swim up to Cubs. “Swimming up” is when they move from one section to the next as they get older and move on to their next adventure in Scouts.

A special mention as well to 3 of them, who worked incredibly hard to achieve their Bronze Award before moving on. The Bronze Award is the highest award in Beavers, so this was a fantastic achievement and very well deserved.

Good luck in Cubs everyone. We know you will do brilliantly 💚

Not all our volunteers run sessions…
This one helped us by making 30 bean bags for the upcoming beaver Olympics evening!

Not all heroes wear capes… some wear scout uniforms 😉

Let us know if you have a skilll that you’d like to share… like the ability to whip up some bean bags… or bake… or tie knots… or gardening…

The list of how you could help is endless…

Our friends over in Yeovil…

For anyone that loves a bit of bingo. Raising funds for the explorer belt challenge that 3 of our young leaders are taking part in this summer

We are often asked if we have space for new young people, and the honest answer is that we usually have a waiting list.

That said, it is never too early to get your child’s name down. We welcome young people from age 6 upwards, and spaces do come up over time.

Scouts is not just about activities, although there is plenty of that. It is about building confidence, learning to work with others, trying things that might feel a bit daunting at first, and being part of something bigger than yourself.

We are a local, volunteer-led group, and everything we do is rooted in the community around us.

If you would like to find out more, or add your child to the list, please get in touch.

One of the highlights from camp… the rope swing 🌳

Took a bit of bravery for some, no hesitation at all from others 😅

Always good to see them pushing themselves and cheering each other on

This is what it’s all about

We’ve finally counted it all up…

Our first year of Scout Post raised £184.20 🎉

Genuinely blown away by the support in our year.
Every card delivered, every donation, every bit of help adds up and makes a real difference for our group.

It helps us keep costs down, buy equipment, and give the young people more opportunities they might not otherwise get.

So from all of us… thank you 💚

We'll be back for a bigger and better scout post 2026!

A huge thank you to Jonny and his team from Sherborne Fire Station.
We visited them as part of our safety badge, and they were awesome!
We had a look around the station, saw what was on the 🚒, learned all about 🔥 hazards and what 🧑‍🚒 do, and we even had a go on the hoses! 💦 The kids, and leaders (and even some parents) and a brilliant time! Thanks Jonny and team!

If you have a child that’s nearly 6, please get in touch as we will have spaces soon and we do lots of exciting things like this!!
