1st Sherborne Scout Group

It was a big evening for our Beavers this week.

We visited Sherborne Abbey as part of our Faith and World badges to learn more about the Christian faith, the history of the Abbey, and the role it plays within our community. Huge thanks to Reverend Martin for giving up some of his day off to come in and keep everyone entertained while teaching them all about the Abbey and Christianity.

We also welcomed 5 new Beavers properly into the Colony with their investiture. For those who do not know, this is when they make their Scout promise and officially become part of the group. And what an incredible place to make your promise. The Abbey really is a stunning building.

The evening also saw 4 Beavers swim up to Cubs. “Swimming up” is when they move from one section to the next as they get older and move on to their next adventure in Scouts.

A special mention as well to 3 of them, who worked incredibly hard to achieve their Bronze Award before moving on. The Bronze Award is the highest award in Beavers, so this was a fantastic achievement and very well deserved.

Good luck in Cubs everyone. We know you will do brilliantly 💚

Not all our volunteers run sessions…
This one helped us by making 30 bean bags for the upcoming beaver Olympics evening!

Not all heroes wear capes… some wear scout uniforms 😉

We are often asked if we have space for new young people, and the honest answer is that we usually have a waiting list.

That said, it is never too early to get your child’s name down. We welcome young people from age 6 upwards, and spaces do come up over time.

Scouts is not just about activities, although there is plenty of that. It is about building confidence, learning to work with others, trying things that might feel a bit daunting at first, and being part of something bigger than yourself.

We are a local, volunteer-led group, and everything we do is rooted in the community around us.

We’ve finally counted it all up…

Our first year of Scout Post raised £184.20 🎉

Genuinely blown away by the support in our year.
Every card delivered, every donation, every bit of help adds up and makes a real difference for our group.

It helps us keep costs down, buy equipment, and give the young people more opportunities they might not otherwise get.

So from all of us… thank you 💚

We'll be back for a bigger and better scout post 2026!

A huge thank you to Jonny and his team from Sherborne Fire Station.
We visited them as part of our safety badge, and they were awesome!
We had a look around the station, saw what was on the 🚒, learned all about 🔥 hazards and what 🧑‍🚒 do, and we even had a go on the hoses! 💦 The kids, and leaders (and even some parents) and a brilliant time! Thanks Jonny and team!
