6th Yeovil Brownies

This week we finished off our work towards the challenge badge for this term - GGSWE & BUPA Get with the Program's Healthy Lunch-Bot Coding.

Tawny Owl and her friend Annabelle ran an amazing session on robotics and the importance of STEM.

Brownies were able to move a robot around the room and make it throw a ball at a target.
They were also able to design their own robots and make them out of Lego. There were some very imaginative ideas!! A few of the robots specialise in cleaning rooms 🤔

Saturday 26th September 2026 - Girlguiding SWE Takeover Longleat.

Longleat was brilliant!

We joined Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and Leaders from across the region for the Takeover Longleat event.

We went on the boat cruise and saw sea lions, hippos, gorillas and monkeys. We went in the bat cave and saw bats and a sloth. We saw creepy crawlies, meerkats, red pandas, fox, tortoise, koalas, parrots, alligators plus lots more.
On the safari we saw giraffes, lions, tigers, cheetahs, deer, rhinos, flamingos, vultures, wolves, antelope, zebras, some ostrich and we sang 'Alice the Camel' when we saw the camels.
We also had time to let off a bit of steam in the adventure playground and leaders had lots of fun trying to round everyone up as there were so many children in Brownie uniforms!

We hope everyone had a wonderful time. Leaders were very tired last night, after doing over 11,000 steps!

Thank you to everyone who organised this trip and gave up their Saturday so it could go ahead.

This week we started our work towards the challenge badge for this term.....Get with the Program's Healthy Lunch-Bot Coding.

We talked about what algorithms and codes are and practiced by asking Robot Tawny Owl to wave her hand. This had varied successes and failures.

We then got into groups and completed some other activites.....

1. Writing out a code to make a fruit kebab and then follow the code to make it. We also discussed what went well, what went wrong and how we could have done it differently.

2. Learned about seasonal fruit and vegetables and what time of year they grow at.

3. Learned about what can be recycled and then designed our own Recycling Robots.

For our first meeting back after the summer break, we welcomed some new members and got stuck into some activities.

This terms theme is Be Well.

Our first activity involved Brownies picking up a random letter and then thinking of a Brownie quality beginning with that letter. We got lots of great words.... Happy, Inquisitive, Magnificent, Joyful, Exciting, Funny, Caring.
We then played Speed Friendship where we stood in 2 circles. The inside circle stayed put, while the outside circle moved round and both circles asked their questions to each other. There was some strange questions with really interesting answers!
Finally we talked about rules and wrote down some rules that we know. Brown Owl then read them out one by one and Brownies had to stand in front of signs saying Home, School, Brownies and Everyone for where they thought the rule was applicable.

The Girlguiding Brownie Gold Award is the highest achievement a girl can earn during her time in Brownies. It requires hard work, dedication, and typically takes up to three years to complete.
To achieve this top award, a Brownie must earn all six theme awards from the core Girlguiding programme, make her Brownie Promise, complete a final challenge and visit a Guide unit.
