We’re pleased to share that we are partners on a new project - Darnall Creates History, which will explore the people, places and cultures that make our neighbourhood unique. Funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, this community project invites local people to come together for cinema club, creative workshops, community filmmaking and heritage walks. Together, we'll discover local history, learn new skills and share the stories that matter to us. Darnall Creates History is led by Brightbox Makerspace with Sheffield Young Explorers, Darnall Well Being, Dig Where You Stand, White Teeth, Maya Productions & Sheffield City Council.

Our team wanted to be involved in this project, because we know that Darnall’s history is a story of people from different backgrounds coming together and building a community. This project is a wonderful opportunity to uncover and celebrate that shared history, and to strengthen the connections between people and place that continue to shape Darnall today. That sense of pride, belonging and connection is at the heart of a strong community, and is so important for our individual and collective wellbeing.

Watch this space for ways to get involved!🤩

This time tomorrow, we'll be getting set up at Darnall Lantern Parade! Looking forward to chatting to lots of members of the community there - if you spot our stall, please come and talk to us about the activities and support we offer.

We've really enjoyed working with the local schools, East Local Area Committee, Kinder Kalsi and others to put this fun event together. Look out for our fabulous Somali Dance Group performing there, along with other great performances. All are welcome! 🤩

All of our groups are taking a break this week, whilst it's the school half-term holidays. But we'll be back in action from Monday 2nd November, so here's a reminder of our latest timetable for everything we have going on between now and the end of the year - including new Pilates sessions in Tinsley on Tuesdays at 12pm.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Annual General Meeting yesterday! Over 50 people joined us to hear our highlights from the past financial year, and to learn about our future plans. The showcase featuring our role as a Community Catapult organisation at the Centre for Collaboration in Community Connectedness (C4) was a really good opportunity to share everything we've been doing in community research. And our embedded researcher, Aunam Quyoum, even involved the audience in some research during the event! Thank you to Dr Katie Shearn for her final reflections on the event before we enjoyed a buffet and networking time.

Thanks to the staff at The Old Rectory Handsworth for all their support in accommodating and feeding us - and to C4 for sponsoring the event.

Thank you to Sheffield Pickleball Club for giving us the chance to try out pickleball yesterday! Some of our Men's Health Group members went along to High Hazels Park with a few staff and volunteers to give it a go. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and some are already planning when they'll do it again!
Thanks also to Abrar from DESA for showing us all how to play. 😊

Well done to Waqas and our embedded researcher, Aunam, for representing everything we have done so far with community researchers! They attended the South Yorkshire Research & Innovation Expo at Magna in Rotherham earlier this week, where they were able to share information about the wide range of activities that we deliver to support local communities, and about our work removing barriers and making these sessions accessible. They also talked about everything we've been doing in community research, including our involvement as a Community Catapult with the Centre for Collaboration in Community Connectedness.

Attendees also heard from speakers, including South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard, about the importance of prevention in healthcare, and the need to be innovative and collaborative to deliver change. It was particularly good to see so much focus on the need to start with people, and to recognise the power of communities. As an organisation who have been supporting people in Darnall ward with their health and wellbeing for over 25 years, we know that building trust takes time, and that community organisations like ours can offer relationships and insight that will be key to delivering meaningful innovation in healthcare. 🙌
