🦋 This beautiful butterfly is the Common Blue, Polyommatus icarus!

Flying from April through to October, this little gem is the most widespread of our blue butterflies 🌿 You’ll spot it in all sorts of places; from meadows and heathland to parks and gardens.

🤓 Did you know?
Most years there are two generations, but in warmer weather, there can be up to THREE broods across spring and summer! Keep your eyes peeled next time you’re out and about!

Adventure, teamwork and plenty of laughs at Seaton Wetlands for Colyton Guides! 🌿🛶🥚

From cracking codes to building mini rafts, our Guides took on a whole range of challenges during a fun-filled evening outdoors. The biggest mission of the night? Safely transporting their treasured eggs down the stream without them breaking!

We’re pleased to report that all four eggs survived the journey… even if one completed the adventure upside down 🤣

A huge thank you to Penny for helping create such a brilliant evening full of creativity, problem solving and teamwork. Experiences like these help young members build confidence, friendships and skills for life while having lots of fun along the way. 💙

What’s the messiest or funniest challenge your unit has ever taken on? 👇

A big thanks to for launching this fantastic celebration last year 👏

Why do saltmarshes deserve the spotlight?

🌊 They protect our coasts – acting as natural buffers against flooding, storm surges and rising sea levels
🐦 They’re bursting with wildlife – from curlew and skylarks to fish, frogs and countless plants and invertebrates
🌍 They fight climate change – locking away carbon in their vegetation and sediments

How Fabulous! Let’s celebrate these incredible habitats today (and every day!)

🌿 Nature’s rewards in action! 🌿

After a targeted winter cut of brambles at Knapp Copse LNR, we’re now seeing more Common Twayblade orchids, Neottia ovata than ever before 🙌

This understated beauty might not be the showiest orchid, but look closer and you’ll spot its delicate yellow-green flowers lighting up our grasslands. Found in woodlands, scrub and chalky soils, it’s quietly thriving thanks to careful habitat management.

Keep an eye out if you’re visiting between May and July - you might just spot one!

🌊💙 Happy World Ocean Day! 💙🌊

Whether you’re by the coast or miles inland, our oceans connect us all - and they do so much more than you might think…

🌍 Cover 70% of our planet
🫁 Produce over half the oxygen we breathe
🌱 Absorb nearly a third of our carbon emissions

Pretty incredible, right?

🎉 Volunteer Week – Final Day! 🎉

Last but definitely not least, today we’re celebrating two fantastic groups who make a real difference at Seaton Wetlands - our Walking Wardens and Guides in the Hides 💚

Our Walking Wardens have covered an incredible 200km+ over the past year 🚶‍♀️🌿 helping keep the site safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone who visits.

Meanwhile, our expert Guides in the Hides have spotted 70+ different bird species 🐦 - sharing their knowledge and passion to help visitors discover the amazing wetland wildlife around them.

Together, they play a huge role in connecting people with nature at one of our busiest reserves, and we’re so grateful for your time, enthusiasm and dedication.
