Honiton Carnival Honiton Carnival Committee, East Devons biggest illuminated carnival! Honiton boasts two carnivals each year, the main October event a late Christmas event.

East Devon Circuit carnival in October each year and the ‘only for fun’ Christmas carnival in December. Honiton Carnival, part of the East Devon Carnival Circuit, hosts carnival entries from across Devon and Somerset with the October Carnival attracting upwards of 100 entries, ranging from individual costumes, local groups and huge illuminated floats.

Did anyone leave a microphone and aux cable at The Beehive last night after the results presentation? It can be picked up from there Mon-Fri, 9-5.

Following last night's carnival there have been many posts and comments so we thought it would be useful to give you some things you may like to know about Honiton Carnival:
1. In modern times it is and always has been held on the 4th Saturday in October no matter what that date is.
2. Road closure and street collection applications have to been submitted to Devon County Council and East Devon District Council 3 months in advance and so the date of the carnival can not be changed at short notice. We have to pay fees for these as well as the usual insurance premiums.
3 The carnival is only as good as the entries we have, we can not just add entries to make it better!. These entries take months to build and cost a lot of money to build and keep on the road to attend all the carnivals.
4. The trucks that usually lead our procession raise a lot of money for charity and always support us.
5. Any profits from our carnivals are donated to local charities and organisations. Please contact us to apply for a donation.
6. For last night's carnival, we had very long discussions about if we should cancel or not. After studying the weather radar and could see that the rain was going to ease in the evening the decision was made to go ahead. We have bad weather as part of our risk assessment and the emergency services were happy for us to go ahead. Carnival people are very used to rain! We knew the public attendance would be down but were so grateful to everyone who did come along to support us.
7. It was left entirely to each entrant to decide if they wanted to attend last night's carnival and no pressure was put on anyone to attend.
Finally if you think you could and would like to enter the carnival with either a float or a walking entry we are more than willing to help and advice. Likewise, if you have any suggestions to share maybe you would like to join our small committee or email us at [email protected]

Thank you so much for everyone who braved the rain and came out to support us tonight. Your support is much appreciated.
It has been a difficult day for us but we were glad we were able to put on a carnival albeit smaller than past years but that’s understandable.
Now looking forward to our Christmas Carnival on 5th December, let’s hope the weather is kinder to us then.
