Tea with a Pony at Hexham Abbey

What a wonderful afternoon we shared today at our Dementia Friendly Tea with a Pony session at Hexham Abbey.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for tea, cake, conversation and, of course, time spent with our very special pony, Sidney, who once again brought smiles, memories and moments of connection to so many people.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the amazing volunteers from The Palomino Trust, whose dedication, kindness and hard work make these sessions possible. A special thank you also goes to Dave from DJC Environmental, who generously gave up his time to help and support the session today.

Thank you to the wonderful team at Hexham Abbey for their warm welcome, support and hospitality. The staff and volunteers at the Abbey helped create a relaxed, friendly and inclusive environment that made the afternoon so special.

We are also incredibly grateful to the Community Foundation and The Ringtons Fund for their generous funding and support. Their investment enables us to continue providing opportunities for older people, those living with dementia, their families and carers to come together, share experiences and enjoy meaningful moments within their community.

Finally, thank you to Sidney, who never fails to bring comfort, companionship and plenty of smiles wherever he goes.

Together, these sessions demonstrate the power of community, conversation and connection, and we are proud to be able to offer them free of charge to those who benefit from them most.

๐Ÿ’™ Dementia Action Week | 18โ€“24 May 2026 ๐Ÿ’™

This week is Dementia Action Week, led by the Alzheimer's Society โ€” a national campaign raising awareness, encouraging understanding, and reminding people that nobody should face dementia alone.

We proudly kicked off the week with one of our Dementia Friendly Tea with a Pony sessions at the The Palomino Trust, bringing people together for tea, conversation, companionship, and time with our gentle pony Sidney.

Listening to personal stories from those living with dementia, carers, and families was both emotional and incredibly important. These sessions remind us just how powerful community, connection, and simple moments of kindness can be.

Did you know:
๐Ÿ’™ Every 3 minutes someone in the UK develops dementia
๐Ÿ’™ 1 in 3 people born in the UK today will go on to develop dementia in their lifetime.

At the Palomino Trust, we believe creating dementia-friendly spaces matters. The calming presence of animals, shared experiences, social interaction, and supportive environments can make a real difference to wellbeing and help reduce isolation.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers, supporters, and community partners who help make these sessions possible, and to the Community Foundation and the Ringtons Fund for supporting our dementia-friendly activities within the community.

During Dementia Action Week, we encourage everyone to:
๐Ÿ’™ Check in on loved ones and neighbours.
๐Ÿ’™ Take time to listen to peopleโ€™s stories.
๐Ÿ’™ Learn more about dementia.
๐Ÿ’™ Help create kinder, more inclusive communities.

Together, even the smallest act of kindness can mean the world to someone. ๐Ÿ’›

Todayโ€™s Dementia Friendly Tea with a Pony at Lintzford Garden Centre was truly a special and emotional afternoon. ๐Ÿ’›

We would like to say a huge thank you to the amazing staff at Lintzford Garden Centre for their kindness, support and hospitality throughout the session โ€” you made everyone feel so welcome.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to our incredible volunteers from The Palomino Trust โ€” Kim, David and Cindy โ€” alongside support from PonyTales - Interactive. Your compassion, patience and dedication never go unnoticed.

A special thank you as well to Dave from DJC Environmental, who took an afternoon away from asbestos work to volunteer his time and support todayโ€™s session. That kindness and community spirit means so much.

Today was one of those afternoons that reminded us why these sessions matter so deeply. Listening to personal stories about how dementia and Alzheimerโ€™s have impacted individuals and families was incredibly moving. These conversations are powerful, and creating safe, welcoming spaces for people to connect, talk and simply spend time together is so important.

Of course, Sidney brought plenty of smiles, comfort and gentle moments along the way. ๐Ÿด

Finally, we would like to sincerely thank Community Foundation serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland and The Ringtons Fund for funding todayโ€™s session and helping make these meaningful community experiences possible.

๐Ÿ’› Itโ€™s Mental Health Awareness Week ๐Ÿ’›

At The Palomino Trust, we know that mental health support doesnโ€™t always begin in a clinic or office.

Sometimes it begins with connection, fresh air, gentle conversation, creativity, feeling safeโ€ฆ and even the quiet presence of a pony.

Through our community sessions, Dementia Friendly Tea with a Pony gatherings, Art for Wellbeing sessions, wellbeing walks and animal-assisted interactions, we aim to create calm, welcoming spaces where people feel seen, valued and included.

Art, nature, animals and community can all play an important role in supporting emotional wellbeing โ€” helping people slow down, express themselves, build confidence and reconnect with others in a gentle and supportive environment.
Mental health matters at every age, and support should be compassionate, accessible and community-led.

This week is a reminder to check in with one another, make space for kindness, and remember that even small moments of connection can make a real difference ๐Ÿ’›

Thank you to everyone who supports our work, attends sessions, volunteers alongside us, and helps us continue building supportive spaces within our communities.

๐Ÿ’š World Mental Health Day โ€“ 10th October ๐Ÿ’š

Today we take a moment to remind ourselves that mental health matters โ€” every day, for everyone. ๐Ÿ’ญโœจ

Itโ€™s okay to not be okay. Itโ€™s okay to ask for help. And itโ€™s okay to take time for yourself. ๐Ÿ’š

Letโ€™s break the stigma, start conversations, and show kindness โ€” to others and to ourselves. A small act of compassion can make a big difference. ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿค
