Sad News
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Jan Sparrow, wife of Rotarian John. Jan was a regular visitor to and supporter of our meetings and events over many years and will be sadly missed. Our deepest condolences go to John and his family. RIP Jan.

Comedy Night
Last Thursday's meeting was a Partners and Guests evening. In addition to our normal Sergeant at Arms, Roger Green, telling a few of his very funny one-liners, we were also treated to an impromptu comedy performance from Dot Crutchley, wife of Rotarian Phil. Her jokes were well received by the audience, even leading to shouts encouraging her to become a member and apply for next year's Sergeant at Arms position! Don't worry Roger. You will always be our favourite comedian (and Tom Jones lookalike). Well done Dot and Roger. A very enjoyable evening.

Huge Congratulations to Hollie Billups who has been awarded the Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Bursary for Nursing.

Hollie gained Triple Distinction* in her BTEC Health and Social Care course at Thomas Rotherham College and has been praised by her teaching staff and progress Tutor for her resilience and determination to succeed.

Recently Hollie has commenced her child nursing studies at Sheffield Hallam University and is enjoying every minute.

Each year since the Covid-19 pandemic Rotherham Sitwell Rotary has offered a Bursary for Nursing to a student from Thomas Rotherham College progressing to a local university to study nursing. Hollie's award celebrates the commitment of future nurses from Rotherham who are ready to care for people in a world where health and recovery are always changing . The Bursary for Nursing is not just financial support — it’s a vote of confidence in individuals who are ready to make a difference in healthcare.

Charter Night
The Club celebrated its 38th birthday at E'Lupos Restaurant on Saturday 3rd October. It was an excellent evening, well attended and everyone had a great time. The meal was very enjoyable (Thank You E'Lupos) and after-dinner entertainment was provided by David Knight, son of Rotarian Tom. He had everyone singing and dancing. It was an evening of wonderful fellowship for Rotarians, family and guests and a great way to celebrate the Club's 38th birthday. Thanks to Tom Knight and the Membership and Social Committee for a really enjoyable evening.

Cricket Lovely Cricket
Three of us went to Headingley on Thursday to support England in their One Day International match against Sri Lanka. Sadly our efforts were in vain as England lost although we did see over 600 runs scored in the day. Great Fellowship although we did miss the evening club meeting. Apologies Mr. President.

This is Joey Askwith.
During his summer holiday, Joey decided to raise money in memory of his Grandad Tony’s neighbour, who had spent time at Rotherham Hospice before he died a couple of years ago. The idea grew into a fundraising day with several fun activities on the family’s drive.
Two of the games—the Human Fruit Machine and Splat the Rat—had been designed and built by Grandad Tony Jackson when he was a member of Rotherham Sitwell Rotary.
Following a couple of messages, Tony borrowed the two games whilst Joey and his family thought up some other activities.
Word for the big day was spread by a number of ways including flyers circulated to all the neighbours.

Much to everyone’s delight there was a great turn out plus donations for Rotherham Hospice in memory of Chris Johnson, brother of Rotarian Trevor Johnson.

Joey raised an incredible £2000 which will increase to £2343.25 with gift aid!

Congratulations must go to Joey who family are so proud that he has already learned the values to care for others at such a young age.

Crossroads Charity Shop
Rotherham Sitwell Rotary helping in so many ways. This time a car load of saleable goods for Crossroads charity shop on Bridgegate Rotherham.

Charity Evening
Together with Round Table, 41 Club and Tangent, we have arranged a fund raising event on Rotherham Day, Friday 18th September, 7.00 for 7.30pm at the Hind pub. This is in aid of 'More Than A Number'. More Than A Number is Rotherham United Community Trust’s season-long fundraising campaign, created to protect vital Health and Wellbeing sessions across Rotherham.

The campaign supports activities including United in Health, MAN v FAT, Coffee Mornings, a Walking Group and Andy’s Man Club. These sessions help local people improve their physical and mental wellbeing, build friendships, and feel less isolated, but they currently receive no dedicated funding.
The event costs £20 per head and this includes entry, Pie, peas and chips (steak and ale or turkey and ham),music bingo with five rounds of prizes, three games of 'heads and tails' and a free raffle.
Guests and friends welcome. Advance booking required.

"All Aboard Again"

Last Thursday a small group of members and guests had a very enjoyable trip along the canal hosted by Swinton Lock Activity Centre. The weather was perfect and refreshments were taken at the Gorilla B**r Hall. (Sadly the brewery has now closed but the B**r Hall is still thriving).

Our thanks go to Rotarian Tom Knight and other members of Swinton Lock Activity Centre for their kind hospitality. Members and guests present made donations to the Charity.

Response to the Venezuelan Earthquake
At our meeting on 2nd July members voted to send a ShelterBox costing £590 to help victims of the earthquake in Venezuela. Details of the work of ShelterBox can be found at:-
