Care Confidence is a website created by university researchers in collaboration with members of the public and care professionals. It is designed to help older people who will be funding their own care to understand what is available to them. There are videos, calculators and links to useful sites, and it covers moving to a different home, home adaptations, moving to a care home and how to get financial advice and support. You can also create your own Care Confidence action plan, which you can save or print. Click the link to explore the site - https://df.careconfidence.org.uk/

It is designed to help you feel better prepared to make decisions about paying for social care, whether for yourself or someone else. If you want to appoint someone you trust to make decisions for you about money and care, ask your solicitor for legal advice about Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA).

It's time that we as a society recognise the contribution unpaid carers make and the toll it can take on their lives and health. Right now, 11.6 million people in the UK are providing unpaid care, and one in two of us will either care for someone with dementia or need dementia care ourselves in our lifetime. That's why it's vital that carers are supported, valued, and understood by everyone around them. This week is Carers Week and the theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities - read more below.

Nearly half of unpaid carers feel their role is not understood and valued by their community.

Today we launch our Building Carer Friendly Communities report. It explores carers’ experiences and sets out the action needed, by the Government and by communities across the UK, to bring about greater recognition and support for unpaid carers.

Carers Week is made possible through Carers UK working together with six other major charities: Age UK Carers Trust The Lewy Body Society ME Association MND Association and Rethink Mental Illness

We were delighted to be able to present at the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance conference. The day was about collaboration and innovation and we were shortlisted in the awards ceremony for our work with the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre, creating a new pathway for people affected by cancer and dementia. We have exciting news coming soon about next steps. See the video about this collaborative project here: https://youtu.be/W68yb3ngcOQ?si=4pgR8oTAcnndlmad

Volunteers' Week is the perfect time to share this lovely video of our wonderful volunteer David Wells, who was crowned Community Champion at the Your Harrogate Radio Volunteer Awards in May. David not only volunteers for us, but for so many other organisations in the Ripon area and dedicated his award to all of our volunteers, who do so much incredible work to support our charity across North Yorkshire
