Tour of Britain - route timings & road closure details. The fourth stage of the Tour of Britain passes through Ripon (along the B6265) on Saturday 5 September 2026.

As a result there will be a number of both fixed and rolling road closures in place, as well as parking restrictions. Full details can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/yc5mcnpy

Parking restrictions will apply on the route from 8pm on Friday 4 September until approximately 1 hour after the estimated time of race arrival shown - which for Ripon should be at approximately 1:30pm.

DO YOU KNOW THIS MAN? 🐄

We're trying to track down the young butcher in this photo — and we'd love your help.

Back in 1983 he was working at Handley's Butchers on Queen Street, Ripon (now Big Bites). He'd have been around 20 at the time, so he'll be in his early 60s today. He was photographed for the Ripon Gazette alongside the shop's remarkable Victorian tiled mural — a 15ft by 5ft scene of a cow and two groups of sheep in the countryside.

The tiles were saved thanks to Ripon Civic Society and Dewhurst Butchers, and were carefully removed by a team from the Ironbridge Gorge Museum in Shropshire, where they went on display.

This year, as part of Heritage Open Days in Ripon, the mural is coming back — as a full-size replica banner, so people can see it where it once stood. And it would be wonderful to have the man in the photo there with us.

Ripon is gearing up for one of its most exciting Heritage Open Days yet, with two brand-new venues joining the programme for 2026 and a rare chance for the public to step inside one of the City’s best-kept secrets.

Heritage Open Days, England’s largest festival of history and culture, returns this year with Ripon once again playing a starring role. For four days, the City’s historic buildings, hidden corners and community spaces will throw open their doors completely free of charge, offering residents and visitors alike a chance to explore places that are usually off-limits or easily overlooked.
