BIBS (Babies in Buscot Support) Founded by parents in 1987, BIBS is the official charity of Buscot Ward, the RBH local neonatal unit.

Babies in Buscot Support helps sick and premature babies and their families on the local neonatal unit (Buscot Ward) at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. Our charity is run by former Buscot parents meaning we know first-hand the difference our charity makes in helping to save tiny lives and improve the experience of families who go through the stressful experience of having a sick or premature new born baby.

Our families got into the spooky spirit at our latest group, with some adorable Halloween costumes, from pumpkins and witches to skeletons and, of course, spiderman! 🕷️

There was plenty of messy fun making Halloween handprint crafts, getting stuck into the paints and enjoying some spooky treats along the way 🧁😋

We’re delighted to welcome our new Fundraising Assistant to the BIBS team!

Everyone at BIBS has a personal connection to Buscot or neonatal care – we have walked in the shoes of the people we exist to support. However, Kelly’s connection is extra special.

Kelly was herself a Buscot baby! Born at just 27 weeks, Kelly has a very personal connection to the cause – and she is also big sister and aunt to Buscot graduates too!

With a passion for fundraising and helping the community, Kelly is looking forward to meeting our amazing supporters and raising vital funds to help save tiny lives!

💜 Supporting infant feeding on Buscot 💜

We’re always proud to share how the things BIBS funds are making a difference for babies, families and the team caring for them on Buscot.

One of the resources we’ve been funding for the last few years is the UNICEF infant feeding e-learning package, which helps staff build and strengthen their knowledge around infant feeding.

Over the past two years, 81 members of staff on Buscot have accessed the package, including nurses, paediatric and obstetric doctors, and Speech and Language Therapists. More recently, it has also been used to support the training of new members of the infant feeding team.

And the impact is really encouraging. Buscot continues to see consistently high breastfeeding rates, including early expression, breastfeeding at two weeks and breastfeeding at discharge, with rates amongst the best in our local neonatal network.

Early colostrum and breast milk can be so important for premature and sick babies, and we’re delighted that the support BIBS provides is helping the team to give more babies the best possible start.

A huge thank you to the Buscot team for all the work they do to support babies and families, and to everyone who fundraises for and donates money to BIBS - you help make funding like this possible 💜
