🐾 WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY AT THE SWALLOWFIELD SHOW! 🐾

We have had such a brilliant day today! We were lucky enough to have some lovely neighbours beside us — G&T Natural Dog Treats and the fabulous Dog Boutique ladies. ❤️

It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces. Some people come back every year especially to visit us, play on our tombola and even let us talk about our favourite subject… our rescue dogs! 🐶😂

Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by our stall, joined in the fun and supported our dogs. Every penny raised helps us continue the work we do.

Here are just a few of today’s highlights — and we will be back again tomorrow, so please come and see us!

🐾 CODY NEEDS SOMEONE SPECIAL 🐾

Cody is 4½ years old—and I absolutely adore him.

He is highly intelligent, deeply loyal and capable of achieving wonderful things. Cody needs a home with someone who will keep his clever mind active, continue his training and give him the time he needs to build trust.

Cody came from Romania and was the only survivor of a litter of four. As a puppy, he witnessed his mother and siblings being killed by dog catchers. That unimaginable beginning has understandably shaped the dog he is today.

Cody is not a dog for a beginner. He needs an experienced, patient person who understands complex dogs and will love him for exactly who he is—not for who they expect him to become.

He is clever, sensitive and incredibly special. His trust will not be given immediately, but earning it will be worth every moment.

Cody is neutered and will be offered on a three-month foster-to-adopt placement. His adopter must be willing to work closely with our rescue and complete five training sessions—this is non-negotiable. We will support Cody and his new family throughout the placement and beyond.

A home check, two references, a DBS check and multiple meetings will also be required.

I can honestly say that if I had the room, Cody would be mine. We are all incredibly fond of him, and we desperately want someone else to see the beautiful, intelligent and loyal dog that we see. ❤️

🐾 MEET THE VERY HANDSOME TOM TOM 🐾

Tom Tom is a magnificent Caucasian Shepherd mix who is currently in foster care in Goring.

This big, beautiful and incredibly cuddly boy has been waiting in foster care for more than a year—and we cannot understand why! ❤️

Tom Tom lives happily with two canine pals and is a loving, loyal member of his foster family. Typical of his breed, he forms strong bonds with his people and is naturally protective. He absolutely adores the two teenagers he currently lives with.

Tom Tom needs an experienced, confident home that understands large guardian breeds and will give him the security, boundaries and love he needs.

His placement will begin with a three-month Foster to Adopt period. His new family must be willing to engage fully with our rescue and complete five training sessions—this is non-negotiable.

Our adoption process includes:

🤍 MEET BEAUTIFUL BURBERRY 🤍

Burberry is a gorgeous nine-year-old West Highland White Terrier who is fit, well and an absolutely lovely little chap. He is currently living in Pangbourne, Berkshire.

Until six months ago, Burberry had lived with the same family all his life. Sadly, when they moved to Australia, they were unable to take him with them. They were heartbroken to leave their much-loved little boy behind.

Burberry is currently living with another dog and enjoys meeting and walking alongside other dogs when he is out. However, we feel he would probably be happiest as the only dog in his new home, enjoying the sole attention and companionship of one special person.

He loves his two walks each day, followed by all the comforts of home. Burberry needs someone who is at home for most of the time and would love a loyal little companion by their side.

At nine years old, Burberry still has plenty of life and love to give. He deserves the security of a permanent home where he can feel settled and cherished once again.

Burberry’s three month foster to adopt process includes:

💔 MERCY, MERCY… IT’S TIME SOMEONE SHOWED YOU LOVE 💔

Beautiful Mercy has had a very sad life.

She is approximately six years old and has clearly been bred from in the past. We may never know everything this big, beautiful Mastiff has endured, but we know she deserves so much more from the rest of her life.

Despite everything, Mercy remains an incredibly gentle and kind girl. She has been impeccably behaved at the kennels and has shown us nothing but sweetness.

But kennels are no place for Mercy. She needs a comfortable bed, a peaceful home and someone who will love her unconditionally. She deserves to feel safe, cherished and part of a family.

Mercy has not been cat tested, so we are looking for a cat-free home. Although she has shown absolutely no aggression towards other dogs, we believe she would be best placed as the only dog so that she can settle peacefully and receive all the love and attention she has missed for so long.

Mercy is fully vaccinated, and her adoption process includes:

🐾 BRANSTON & MILO ARE LOOKING FOR THEIR FOREVER HOMES! 🐾

Tomorrow we will be at the Swallowfield Show—our biggest show of the year! 🎉 We always have so much fun, and to kick off the celebrations, we will be sharing all our wonderful dogs currently searching for homes.

We are beginning the weekend with two very special little boys—Branston and Milo! 💙💙

At just 14 weeks old, Branston and Milo were abandoned outside Tesco in Henley with only a note. They were taken to Cherry Orchard Vets, who contacted us and asked if we could help. Of course, we said yes.

They are now safe in foster care. Next week, we will begin carefully socialising them with some of our other dogs at the kennels, helping them gain confidence and learn the skills they need for their futures.

🐾 Branston and Milo will be homed separately
🐾 They are microchipped and fully vaccinated
🐾 They are playful, lively and full of character
🐾 Their adopters must complete five training sessions with our rescue
🐾 Two references, a DBS check and a home check are required
🐾 Multiple meetings will take place before adoption

Taking on a puppy is a significant commitment, and we are looking for families who are ready to work closely with us and give these boys the time, training and love they deserve.

💔 SUPPORT BEFORE SURRENDER 💔

A family in our community is grieving the sudden and devastating loss of someone they love.

In the midst of shock and heartbreak, they are also trying to care for their beautiful little female French Bulldog. We know from experience that making permanent decisions about a much-loved dog during the earliest days of grief may lead to even more heartache.

So we want to help—and we will help. ❤️

We are looking for a very special person who could offer this gorgeous little girl occasional respite care for a few days at a time, giving her family the breathing space they need while keeping her connected to the people and home she knows.

She needs:

🐾 Someone who is at home for most of the day
🐾 A calm, patient and loving environment
🐾 A home without other dogs
🐾 Someone able to help for a few days now and again

She does have some reactivity towards other dogs, but we will support her and work gently with her on this. She is not being offered for adoption—we are trying to keep a little dog and her grieving family together.

Sometimes rescue does not mean taking a dog away. Sometimes it means stepping in, holding things together and giving a family time to breathe.

🐾 THANK YOU—FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS 🐾

Thank you, thank you to everyone who donated to little Lucy’s fund. Because of your kindness, we were able to call the veterinary practice today and pay the entirety of Lucy’s bill for her owner.

One of our trustees visited Lucy’s owner last night to let her know. As difficult as it has been for her to cope with Lucy’s passing, she was incredibly grateful. Being faced with a veterinary bill at such a painful time can place enormous additional pressure on an older person—and together, you took that worry away from her.

There is a small amount remaining in Lucy’s fund, which we will use to buy her owner a beautiful framed photograph of her precious little Lucy—something she can keep and treasure forever. ❤️

So, as you go about your day today, please know that your donation did far more than pay a bill. It brought comfort, kindness and a little happiness into an incredibly sad situation.

As a registered charity, we are proud and privileged to walk and work alongside such a compassionate community. Our deepest thanks to every one of you.

Forget Me Not Reading Rescues will be at the Swallowfield Show, and we are looking forward to meeting supporters old and new!

We are a small rescue with a strong commitment to supporting our community. As well as rescuing and rehoming dogs, we help local owners experiencing difficult times through food, veterinary assistance, behavioural support and our Support Before Surrender programme.

New this year is our FREE free work enrichment station for your dogs where we will be showing how you can enrich your dog’s life through enrichment activities.

Come and meet our team, find out all about our work and learn how your support helps us keep dogs safe and families together.

We will also be introducing you to some of our wonderful dogs—and… THE PUPPIES MAY WELL BE COMING TO VISIT US! 🐶🐶💙
