What a fantastic evening we had Lloyd Motorrad Blackpool for our 1st Biker Down Lancashire course. The team were perfect hosts. Special thanks to South Lancashire Advanced Motorcyclists who kindly donated another batch of tourniquets. We were also joined by Mental Health Motorbike which was a super addition to the evening! Keep your eyes peeled for future dates!

Your helmet is one of your most important pieces of safety equipment.

Do you know what the red ribbon or strap inside some helmets is for?

In an emergency, it can help trained responders safely remove the cheek pads, making helmet removal easier if it is needed.
Our Biker Down course includes a full helmet removal section, helping riders understand what to do if they come across a collision.

When choosing a helmet, make sure you’re buying one that offers the best protection possible. The SHARP website provides independent helmet safety ratings, helping you make an informed choice before you ride.

(Visual description: A LFRS employee speaks directly to camera about motorcycle helmet safety. They explain the purpose of the red ribbon or strap found inside some motorcycle helmets, which can help release the cheek pads during an emergency helmet removal. The video highlights that the Biker Down course includes a full helmet removal section and explains how the SHARP website provides independent safety ratings to help riders choose a safer helmet.)

Our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) outlines how we'll help keep Lancashire safer over the next five years.

Following feedback from our communities, partners and employees earlier this year, we've developed our draft plan and are now launching the second phase of our consultation.

We're asking for your views on the community risks we've identified and how we plan to prevent and respond to them.

Take part in the survey here: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/LFRScrmp2

Find out more: www.lancsfirerescue.org.uk/about/consultation

(The survey takes around 5 minutes to complete and closes at 5pm on Friday 9 October 2026.)

Before you ride this season …

If your motorbike has been sitting in the garage over winter, take a few minutes to check it over before heading out.

And don’t forget your kit , dress for the slide, not the ride.

(Visual Description: Two members of staff speak directly to the camera discussing key safety checks to carry out on a motorbike before riding after winter storage, ahead of the biking season. They also highlight the importance of wearing appropriate protective gear, reinforcing the message “dress for the slide, not the ride.”)

Feedback from a recent attendee:

"Just a week after I attended the course I had my first experience of a 'Biker Down' for real! Leading the group ride I noticed a bike on its side in the long grass and a rider 10 yards further from the road who looked injured. His friend was on the phone but struggling to explain where they were. I checked the rider out and was able to direct the emergency services to the right spot using what3words "
