Last Friday, at the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week, we were overjoyed to bring together our maternity colleagues, Trust executives, charity representatives, supporters, donors and contractors to officially open the new Baby Beat Garden here on the Sharoe Green Unit at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 🙏🌿
The original space has been transformed into a peaceful and tranquil environment where families can pause, reflect and remember. Featuring murals, commemorative elements and a Tree of Love, the garden has been designed to provide comfort and support during some of life's most difficult moments 🙏
Sarah Morrison, Deputy Chief Executive here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, said: "I am beyond pleased and proud to open this garden. It is a reflection of the love and respect that our wonderful charities, Baby Beat, and the Hospital Charity have for the women, children and families who use our services.
"It is also a reflection of the commitment of our fantastic teams, who give so much to so many people and have the opportunity to truly change lives. We are incredibly grateful for all the effort, energy and care they put into the support they provide.
"I hope this garden offers a space for reflection, time out and rest whenever it is needed. To everyone who has done so much to make this happen, thank you. I am delighted to officially declare this garden open."
🌳🍂 The creation of the garden, including the stunning copper-leafed tree designed and supplied by Darwen artist collective Forjd and the colourful wall murals hand painted by Preston-based designer Jennifer Quinn Interiors, cost approximately £65,000 from Baby Beat's charitable funds.
A number of the contractors involved in the design and build, including the North West branch of construction firm Tilbury Douglas, kindly reduced their costs or donated aspects of their work to help our valuable charity funds stretch further, enabling us to make even more of a difference for the babies and families cared for on our wards.
Of the £65k that we spent on this project, £10,000 of this was generously donated by Leyland Round Table and a portion of a recent £25,000 donation from the Eric Wright Charitable Trust also went towards the garden. Further grants were also made by The DJ Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Programme, Beth Heaney and David Ashworth, JQ, Fitton Trust, and The Manson Family 👏
We'd like to give an enormous thank you to everyone who contributed to the development of this garden, including our wonderful charity donors, fundraisers and volunteers, which will provide a dedicated place of reflection, remembrance and wellbeing for families 🧡
